Canadian crypto exchange QuadrigaCX says it cannot repay most of $190 million in client holdings after its 30-year-old founder Gerald Cotten, the only person who knew the passwords to its “cold storage,” unexpectedly died in India in December 2018, Coindesk reported on Friday.
In a sworn affidavit with the Nova Scotia Supreme Court, widow Jennifer Robertson said that QuadrigaCX owes its customers some $190 million in both cryptocurrency and fiat money. QuadrigaCX has filed for creditor protection because it says it cannot access the funds stored in “cold storage,” just the comparatively smaller amount in a “hot wallet” used for transfers, which is considered the best bitcoin wallet.
Cotten, 30, died in India last December from complications from Crohn’s disease, according to the company. He was in India “opening an orphanage to provide a home and safe refuge for children in need”.
Sounds like we lost a real asset to the world, let alone investors.

After reports that he allegedly kidnapped an ex-girlfriend surfaced on the internet, Soulja Boy is reportedly denying the allegations.
According to a report TMZ posted today (Feb. 5), Soulja denies allegations that he attacked his former girlfriend and left her bound to a chair for six hours. He also claims that he never even saw Kayla on the night the reported kidnapping happened.
Sources close to Soulja Boy say the alleged victim was dating the rapper prior to the incident. Aft er he broke up with her, Kayla returned to his house in L.A. last Friday night (Feb. 1) and apparently crashed her vehicle in his driveway after hitting a curb. Once people inside the house heard the crash, a woman who manages Soulja came outside and told her to leave.
Kayla apparently didn't like being denied at the door, because she allegedly attacked Soulja's manager and started a fight outside his home. Sources in Soulja's camp say that the injuries Kayla reported were actually from Soulja's manager, who acted in self defense after the ex-girlfriend pounced on her. Meanwhile, Soulja Boy reportedly stayed inside his home and didn't even come outside to see what was going on. His team maintains that Kayla's version of the story is completely false.

Michelle Williams is returning to television for the first time in 16 years. She’s playing dancer and actress Gwen Verdon, whose career aspirations were supplanted by her marriage to choreographer-director Bob Fosse.
Oscar winner Sam Rockwell plays Fosse in the eight-episode FX series “Fosse/Verdon,” debuting April 9.
Williams’ last TV work was the hit series “Dawson’s Creek” that ended in 2003.
She sees parallels with Verdon, who was a working mother like Williams.
Williams pointed out a long gap in Verdon’s career while she stayed home to raise Nicole, her daughter with Fosse. Nicole Fosse is a creative consultant on the series.
Williams said Monday that such gaps are something all working mothers struggle with and called it “a very complicated dilemma.”

Demi Lovato took down her Twitter account Sunday night after receiving backlash for making light of rapper 21 Savage's recent detainment by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcementagents in Atlanta.
"So far 21 Savage memes have been my favorite part of the Super Bowl," Lavato tweeted.
Earlier that day, 21 Savage, whose real name is Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was arrested in a "target operation" by ICE for being in the U.S. illegally after the agency revealed that he is a citizen of the United Kingdom and a convicted felon.
Shortly after the news broke, Lovato and thousands of others took to social media in response, with many in disbelief that the Grammy-award winning rapper, who has claimed to be from the South, isn't originally from Atlanta.
However, not everyone found the arrest to be a source of humor.
Rapper Wale responded to Lovato's tweet, writing: "Why is somebody freedom funny ...I don't get the joke."
"A lot of people were sending you love light, prayers etc. When people were making jokes about u at a rough time. A lot of people. Bless up," he wrote, referring to the singer's apparent drug overdose last Summer.
Other users responded to the singer on her Instagram page and mocked her history of drug abuse.
The "Confident" singer defended her tweet, saying she found humor in memes about the rapper possibly being deported.
"Sorry if I offended anyone. But it's no excuse to laugh at someone's addiction let alone their OD," she wrote in a post on her Instagram story.
Other rappers, including Migos' Offset responded to the online reaction, tweeting that the memes and reactions are not funny. He added that he is praying for Abraham-Joseph, 26, and his family as he goes through this immigration process.
Meek Mill, who served five months in prison after being sentenced in November 2017 to up to four years in prison for a probation violation stemming from a 2008 conviction on drug and firearm charges, also tweeted on Sunday: "Free 21."
ICE spokesperson Bryan Cox said in a statement on Sunday that the rapper has been placed in "removal proceedings" before the federal immigration courts and they will await the outcome of his case "to determine future actions."
His attorney, Dina LaPolt, said in a statement shortly after that she is working to get him released and "to clear up any misunderstandings."

Liam Neeson was branded a racist who should be banned from the Oscars after speaking for the first time about his extreme reaction when he learned a loved one had allegedly been raped while he was overseas.
During an interview with the Independent to promote his new film Cold Pursuit, the actor, 66, described how he walked the streets looking for a 'black b*****d' to kill in a misguided attempt at revenge.
He said that after coming home from an overseas trip years ago he was told a loved one, who he does not name, had been raped.
Liam said: 'She handled the situation of the rape in the most extraordinary way. But my immediate reaction was I asked, did she know who it was? No. What colour were they? She said it was a black person.
'I went up and down areas with a cosh, hoping I’d be… approached by somebody – I'm ashamed to say that – and I did it for maybe a week, hoping some 'black b******d' would come out of a pub and have a go at me about something, you know? So that I could kill him.'
He went on: 'It took me a week, maybe a week and a half, to go through that. She would say, "Where are you going?" and I would say, "I'm just going out for a walk." You know? "What’s wrong?" "No no, nothing's wrong.'"
He admitted it was a 'horrible' time and he's learned a valuable lesson from his 'awful' reaction. He added that growing up in Northern Ireland during the Troubles has given him insight into the 'primal need for revenge' and how destructive that can be.
Then Twitter had at him:

Kristoff St. John, the long-running star of “The Young and the Restless,” was found dead on Sunday. He was 52.
Friends went to check on St. John at his San Fernando Valley home on Sunday, when they discovered his body, TMZ reported. They called police and paramedics, who pronounced the actor dead at the scene.
Police and reps for St. John didn’t immediately returned Page Six’s request for comment.
In a since-deleted tweet, however, St. John’s ex-wife, boxer Mia St. John, blamed the mental health facility that treated their son for Kristoff’s death.
“THAT HOSPITAL KILLED OUR SON @TheArtofJulian THEN MY HUSBAND @kristoffstjohn1 THATS WHAT HAPPENED! THEY KILLED MY FAMILY,” she wrote.
Kristoff and Mia’s son, Julian, died by suicide in 2014 while seeking treatment at the unnamed facility. They sued for negligence and later settled. The former couple also founded the El Saber es Poder (Knowledge Is Power) Foundation to battle mental illness.
In 2017, Kristoff threatened suicide and was placed on a 72-hour hold for psychiatric evaluation.
He leaves behind two daughters, Paris St. John and Lola St. John.
Vivica A. Fox took to Instagram to pay tribute to her former co-star.
“It is with a very heavy heart that I wake up this morning to hear about the passing of my good friend @KristoffStJohn who I started off my acting career with on the Soap Opera #Generations and recently #AChristmasCruise WOW! Kristoff I will soo miss u my brotha! #RESTINPARADISE my friend! #Blessed #Respect,” she captioned an old photo of the two of them together.

Maroon 5 front man Adam Levine has responded to critics who urged the band to show solidarity with Colin Kaepernick by not to performing at Super Bowl LIII, with the singer hinting that the halftime show will include a social message.
'I'm not in the right profession if I can't handle a little bit of controversy. It is what it is, we expected it,' Levine said in an interview on Thursday with Entertainment Tonight, three days ahead of the big game in Atlanta.
'We'd like to move on with it, and like I said earlier, speak though the music,' Levine said of the band's plans for Sunday's championship game between the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams.
Maroon 5 came under scrutiny when a petition signed by more than 113,000 fans demanded that they withdraw from performing at the Super Bowl to support Kaepernick and other players who kneel during the national anthem. It should be interesting to see.

Mariah Carey, one of the world’s most celebrated artists, is performing in Saudi Arabia on Thursday for the first time, but there’s a growing chorus of Saudi women calling on her to cancel the concert to show support for detained women’s rights activists.
Carey is the highest-profile star to perform in the kingdom since it began loosening decades of restrictions on entertainment.
But activists say her concert is an attempt by the government to polish its image after the Oct. 2 killing of Saudi critic Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
Carey’s publicists told the Associated Press in a statement that when “presented with the offer to perform for an international and mixed gender audience in Saudi Arabia, Mariah accepted the opportunity as a positive step towards the dissolution of gender segregation.”
“As the first female international artist to perform in Saudi Arabia, Mariah recognizes the cultural significance of this event and will continue to support global efforts towards equality for all,” the statement said, adding that Carey looks forward to bringing inspiration and encouragement to all audiences.
Omaima Al-Najjar, a Saudi woman who fled the kingdom to seek political refuge abroad, said the concerts are a diversion from the Saudi-led war in Yemen against the neighboring country’s Houthi rebels, human rights abuses committed under the crown prince and repressive male guardianship laws that restrict women’s freedoms.
“The Saudi government is using entertainment to distract the people from human rights abuses because it can sense the anger among the public,” she said. Al-Najjar is a co-founder of Women for Rights in Saudi Arabia, or WARSA, which launched a petition calling on Carey to boycott the country.
Activists are tweeting at Carey directly, urging her to take notice of the prominent Saudi women’s rights activists imprisoned since May who had long campaigned for social changes and women’s empowerment. The women, who include activists in their 20s as well as mothers, grandmothers and retired professors, have been accused of vague national security violations in connection with their human rights work.
Alia al-Hathloul called on Carey to remember her sister, Loujain al-Hathloul, who she says has been abused and threatened with death while in detention because of her activism, which included defying the kingdom’s ban on women driving before it was lifted last year.
“Remember, thanks to my sister @LoujainHathloul, you r able to perform in Saudi Arabia. I wish she can attend your concert. But she’s locked behind bars because she tried to improve women’s condition. Don’ forget to thank her on stage,” she wrote to Carey on Twitter.

The rapper, who shares six-month-old daughter Kulture with the fellow musician, is said to have returned to the home they share in Atlanta as they rebuild their relationship following the cheating scandal which erupted last month.
TMZ report the couple are rebuilding their relationship just a month after leaked text messages appeared to show Offset organising a threesome with two women - leading to the 'No Groupie' rule which is helping their renewed romance.
Just last week, Cardi, real name Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, tweeted saying: 'I wanna go home', shortly before Offset 'proved himself' to his wife, who he wed in 2017.
After changing his number, he has reportedly proved he is serious about their union - with his new phone number being strictly for business and Cardi.
