Billboard did a list of their top 25 songs of the year (you can see it on the original YouTube page), and here they all are in five and a half minutes of pure woe. You can have your Ke$ha with your Rihanna, your Jason Derulo with your Train. But at what price?
I don’t know about you guys, but I only like maybe two and a half of these songs in a non-ironic way (Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite” gets me every single time, and I won’t apologize for that), and the rest are just upsetting. I get physically uncomfortable listening to “Tik Tok” and “Imma Be,” but the kids are all over it these days. Down at the gay bar, everyone goes crazy when “California Gurls” comes on, and I’m always like “you guys, they’re not talking about us.” I don’t get it.
That being said, this mashup is super well done. It probably helps that most of the songs sound really similar to begin with. Do you guys like it? Ironically or not, I’m just curious. If you genuinely like it, I’m curious as to why, and if you share my opinion, I’d like to commiserate and hear your opinion on good music. All is not lost, you guys.
…this makes me very, very sad.
Yeah – pretty bad for sure – with very little edge. I admit to liking these songs – and only these:
Rude Boy / Nothin’ On You / Dynamite / Bad Romance.
That’s four out of twenty-five.
When Enrique Iglesias would be number five – it can’t be a great year, that’s for sure.
I graduated from high school in 1985 (yes, I am that old.)
Here are the top ten from 1985 –
1. “Careless Whisper”…..Wham!
2. “Say You, Say Me”…..Lionel Richie
3. “Separate Lives”…..Phil Collins & Marilyn Martin
4. “I Want To Know What Love Is”…..Foreigner
5. “Money For Nothing”…..Dire Straits
6. “We Are The World”…..USA for Africa
7. “Broken Wings”…..Mr. Mister
8. “Everybody Wants To Rule The World”…..Tears for Fears
9. “The Power Of Love”…..Huey Lewis & The News
10. “We Built This City”…..Starship
If the music industry didn’t implode after that, I am sure it will be fine for the time being : )
too much ke$ha. way too much ke$ha.
Gaga rocked 2010. Anxiously look forward to what she puts out for 2011. Gaga is a talented musical genius who marked herself brilliantly.
Even if you don’t like all of those songs separately, you’ve gotta admit…the mash-up is pretty dope. But I agree with Gerry, too much ke$ha.
was Tik-Tok really THAT big of a hit for it to hog nearly every second of that mash-up?
