A while ago, I mentioned Skins in a post, and a lot of you seemed to be really excited about that. So have you guys seen the trailer for the MTV version of the show? If you haven’t, just watch it real quick, and then we can talk about how much bullshit it is. I was under the impression that MTV was going to do an American version of Skins, not an American remake. I’m pretty sure the scripts are exactly the same, save a couple of pointless name changes. A lot of the shots are even the same – it sounds like the girl’s having an orgasm, but really she’s high and jumping on a trampoline, how clever. But really, why bother?
I will say this: MTV’s Sid (or Stanley, whatever) is adorable. However, his floppy hair does not make up for the mediocre acting of the entire cast. I am officially disgusted. This is like seeing a fancy Broadway production of Wicked and everything’s so pretty and fun and well done, and then a few years later you catch a community theatre production, and nobody’s as good as Broadway, and they also haven’t exactly figured out the rigging so Elphaba ends up kind of precariously dangling in the air. That’s precisely what this is like.
Does anyone understand why this is happening?
Wow. I enjoyed the British version, but this sucks. It’s a word-for-word remake with bad acting.

It is happening because this is what the US does to good, UK television. Do you know what they do in the UK? They air Glee, they do not make a pointless, less well acted version of it with English accents, they just air the fucking show exactly the way we see it here. American networks don’t think we’re intelligent enough to understand english accents, so they pull this ridiculous crap. Never mind the fact that shows like Monty Python’s Flying Circus, Absolutely Fabulous and The Young Ones did very well over here without being tinkered with or redone. It’s BULL and I’m glad I’ll be going back to England in a few months. I can still see all my favorite American shows, and I won’t have to be insulted by crap remakes of good english ones.
You HAVE to see “Episodes”, the new show on BBC2 about a couple of English scripwriters whose show gets commissioned for an American version and gets completely destroyed and bastardised. Matt LeBlanc plays one of the main characters. It’s hilarious.

Looks interesting to me, although I have never heard of Skins.
They did the same thing with “Coupling” and the American version was canceled after 3 episode aired. The English version is hilarious, I have all the seasons on DVD.
