Type O Negative bassist/lead singer Peter Steele’s never been shy when it came to dying. Back in 2005, the musician (or rather, his band) faked his own death, but the gimmick was a gag — it was a promo for Type O Negative’s newest album.
However, new reports are emerging that the 48 year-old rocker really has bit the big one this time, but sources are still trying to completely confirm the news.
It’s said that Steele died from heart failure last night. Peter allegedly battled a life-long bout of depression and had endured bouts of psychiatric treatment for his problems.
The band’s site is also confirming the singer’s death, but I checked his Wiki page anyway — and according to it, he is pretty dead. If you can’t trust Wiki, hell, I ask you, who can you trust to tell the truth?

I woke up to this news and it ruined my day. Totally.
I remember being at Duff’s in Brooklyn a few years back when October Rust came on. I thought “Man, I haven’t listened to this album in ages!” and who walks in the door? Peter effin’ Steele.
Big loss to the metal community and the music industry as a whole. Only “celeb” death that actually got to me in ages. RIP.

As if my night wasn’t bad enough last night I find out at 1 am this most horrible of news. In my life long love of music there are 5 musical voices that I hold near and dear and Peter is one of them.
The whole “cocky attitude” thing was just for show. I’ve told this story a million times (especially today) but I had a chance to hang out with him after one of his shows at the House of Blues. He was very quiet, very shy, and extremely kind and generous (not sexually…although I wish, especially after seeing the playgirl spread), but for me and my 17 year old best friends, he gave us an opportunity to have the coolest night of memories we will ever have.
