Lindsay Lohan did an interview with UK’s The Sun, and it’s so honest that I don’t even believe that it’s real. We’ve been waiting for years for Lindsay to just admit outright that she at least used to be a cokehead, but she’s never been that specific until now. I’m just going to share with you some of the best quotes and then you tell me if you think this could possibly be a legit interview:
“When my father was going public, that’s when I hit rock bottom. I abused substances too much and it wasn’t the answer to my problems. People need to know that.”
“I tried to mask my problems with alcohol, cocaine and mind-altering substances. Now I’m in a place where I don’t need to use anything and I can feel emotions because I choose to.”
“I learnt from my mistakes and I’m now healthy and happier. I never want to be close to losing everything I worked for and aspired to have my whole life.”
“Mind-altering substances are so dangerous. If I can teach others, especially teens, by sharing my experiences, then that’s what I will continue to do.
“I’ve made some dreadful mistakes but learned from them – that has probably saved my life.”
“I went to rehab three times. The first time I checked myself in because I had taken Ambien. It’s a sleeping aid but it makes you hallucinate.”
“I’d run a bath and fallen asleep on the floor and the bath had overflowed.”
“When I woke up I was so scared, I called my therapist and said, ‘Can I just go somewhere for a month?”
“I was only aware of cocaine because of my dad. I was terrified of it. But I tried it because I was stubborn, stupid, and wanted to see what it was like.”
“It’s not something I ever want to do again. It made me feel like s***. It became uninteresting to me. I’m hyper anyway and I have that kind of personality so I don’t need something like that.”
See what I mean? If this is real, this is a fairly explosive interview. It’s not that anything she’s saying is news to us, but I don’t think we’ve ever seen Linds take ownership like this before. One sure-fire sign that this could have been a real interview conducted by text or email? The use of the non-word “learnt”.
What do you guys think about this?
[UPDATE: OK, OK. So “learnt” is a word. In “British English”. I’m so sure that a woman who doesn’t have a grasp on common sense or her sobriety and is without a proper education occasionally slips in and out of the King’s English. My mistake.]
She needs to own up and stop blaming her dad. Not that anybody cares its not 2007.
Actually, “learnt” is a word. It’s a past participle of “learn.”
Who gives a shit about this mess and the crap she’s constantly spewing? Her career is over and she needs to mover on with her life.
Wow harsh are we
what? really? “Learnt” is the past tense or the past participle of the verb “learn”.
yes, I’m pretty sure learnt is british/canadian english. I’m not sure if it is recognized in the states.
fake. lets see the law suit post next.
“Learnt” is indeed British English whereas “learned” is American – and both are alternative spellings only.
Since this was the Sun (besides the obvious warnings) it’s not indicative of anything – except that one ought to check (say, an online dictionary) before calling something a non-word?
Yes, because Lindsay Lohan knows British English. I’m so sure.
British publications sometimes reword their interviews with American subjects, even in direct quotes, substituting British word usage for American, e.g. “mum” for “mom.”
Well the Sun is going to use British spelling because it’s, y’know, in Britain
You might want to be careful of dissing anyone’s grasp of English too hard, Crappy Blogger.
I guess The Sun offered up the most cash for this trash.
I wouldn’t be surprised either way. The 2 reasons it would surprise me if it were real, however, is the repeated use of the term “mind-altering substances” (just doesn’t sound like interview/conversational speak, unless, as you noted it was via email.. in which case it still sounds weird to me). Also, if she were to finally give such an interview, don’t you think she’d take it somewhere other than The Sun? This is talk show material right here.
My thoughts exactly. The Sun? Please. I don’t have a problem believing it’s her language, but as soon as I saw who published the interview I called bullshit.
If it is legit then girlfriend needs a new agent.
It’s the queen’s english. There is no king in the monarch right now.
I ran into the same problem while correcting someone’s grammar for “spelt” instead of “spelled.” Damn those Brits for fucking with my grammar policing abilities!
I think besides the “learnt” word, I think she was honest about it.
For the first time in her career she’s being open about using these substances. I think it’s a step in the right direction. She’s owning up to what she did, and that’s mature. Let’s just see if she keeps with it.
Really??! The ambien made her fall asleep (its intention), and the tub overflowed, so she called her therapist and said, “Can I just go somewhere for a month?” Um.
My ambien made me oversleep this morning, but my therapist didn’t let me “go somewhere for a month” because of it. And my boss didn’t thinnk it was necessary either. And I learnt not to run a bath while taking ambien.
Molls, I love you, I do, I think you’re extremely cool and I love your personal blog, but a “non-word”… You work with words, you *should* know that kind of stuff.
I am an American living in the UK and it really irritates me when I read an interview done with an American that has clearly been changed to sound more British. What is up with that? It’s not like people aren’t going to understand it if they read “learned” instead of “learnt!” BTW, The Sun might possibly be the least reliable news source ever, so I would be sure that they completely fabricated that interview.
i love lindsay
