We had a lovely conversation on here yesterday about whether Taylor “I Don’t Give a Fuck” Momsen’s “I Don’t Give a Fuck” attitude was cool or un-cool. So how fitting that, today, photos of the 16-year-old smoking a cigarette on the set of Gossip Girl surfaced. Cool or un-cool, y’all?
Here’s my take on the whole thing: The girl’s 16 years old. She was like 14 when she landed the Gossip Girl gig. She really didn’t sign up to be anyone’s role model. She was just suddenly rich and famous and an underage sex symbol practically overnight, and I’d be lying if I told you I’d have responded any differently to that scenario as a teenager. Do I think smoking’s cool? Eh. I quit last year, but there’s still something very old-Hollywood glamor about it, not gonna lie.
I still love you, Taylor, even if you are the next Lindsay Lohan. Then again, I’m kind of financially invested in finding the next Lindsay Lohan, so I’m not entirely unbiased here. Smoke on, Momsen.

I think her smoking is something that should matter to her and her parents. I completely agree that she shouldn’t be expected to be a role model just because she has a job that puts her in the public eye.

and i understand, its a choice i’ve made. i will probably die from some sort of smoking related illness, then again, probably not. what would you die of? everyone has to die of something, and i know that is a cliche most smokers use, but really its my life and I pay a shitload on taxes and medical insurance so i would not be ‘mooching’ of the system when my time comes. in the mean time i’ll just enjoy life, and smoking (which is something I enjoy). i believe there is a stigma smokers have to carry, like we are too dumb, or selfish to realize that smoking kills- i know it kills, i just also know im not gonna live forever, and its never been a dream of mine to live until im 70-80+(although i know i could also die at 45).its just a personal decision, thats why i dont understand the public outrage in most parts of the world.
oh and by the way i smoke less that a pack a week (from reading my post one would think its more like 6, so just in case)

I feel a bit hypocritical for calling her stupid for smoking at 16, because I started smoking at 14, but seriously? How the hell can her parents let her do this? If she was my kid, I would pull her out of that show so fast, her cigarette wouldn’t know what hit it.
I dont smoke now but i tried it when i was like 15-16 for a while and many of my friends did, so eventhough i think it’s normal that a 16 year old girl is smoking i find it disturbing that she’s parading her smoking knowing that it’s illegal and that someone could go to jail for it, since she’s in the public eye… besides i really hate her, she’s such a poser

I started smoking around 12, and 10 years later (with a 3 full years break from 14-15, 16-17 and 18-19) i still am. I can quit. I don’t want to. And frankly, it was never hard to buy smokes without an id when I was that young. I’m just wondering if the cops in the USA/ NYC could fine her for this.. no right?

Have to say i agree completely with the Miley/Taylor thing! Miley is an angel (a spoilt one but still an angel) compared to Taylor! She doesn’t smoke, talk about casual sex (and how great it is blah blah), pretend to be a badass rebel, dress like a full-on hooker and everything else, so why does she get called up when she wears hotpants on stage? Or when a dance-move is slightly less PG13 than usual? Or when she gets a dog? – but Taylor can say she doesn’t have time to care about what happened in Haiti and you lot still worship her?!
This site has gone way down hill since i first started reading it a few years ago! I used to love this site because it was clever, now i just read it because all the gossip is in one place and i dont have to search too hard online. It’s not a 16 year old’s job to be a role model for anyone, other than her little siblings if she has any. It’s up to parents and people who care about a teen to teach them what’s right and wrong and stop them from damaging themselves. If there’s a popular girl in school who smokes, you can bet other girls are going to start copying her, but it’s not the popular girl’s fault people are copying her, it’s the fault of who copies her. If you don’t want your kids looking like strippers, teach them to respect themselves and to express themselves in a non-whoreish way. A vapid 16 year old whose 15 minutes of fame just happened to arrive during their teen rebellion years can’t be expected to take responsibility for other people’s actions, and if she’s a spoilt brat who doesn’t care about Haiti, then stop listening to her.
