Band Hero promised to be a hit this holiday season. The video game has sixty popular songs with avatars of the well-known artists and band members. Unfortunately, the game allows the avatar that represents Gwen Stefani to “perform” other songs.
Basically, Gwen doesn’t want to be electronically singing songs that aren’t hers. The lawsuit specifically states, “”Honky Tonk Woman … results in an unauthorized performance by the Gwen Stefani avatar in a male voice boasting about having sex with prostitutes.” Wait — “Honky Tonk Woman” is about prostitutes?
An injunction was filed, requesting that all copies of the game be pulled off shelves which means there will be some sad little faces at my house on December 25th. Merry Effing Christmas, Happy Effing Hannukah. Boo, Gwen Stefani! It’s a video game, chick. It’s. Not. Real.
I was actually really happy when I heard about this, because Activision’s franchise sucks and Rock Band is where it’s at. Holla
Dude, now you’re fucking talking with that badass avatar! What’s in the divine cup, Lancelot?
I know you’re making fun of me, but fuck you I’ll play along.
For it’s the sweet, sweet nectar of watermelon vodka, light cranberry cocktail, and a splash of healing tonic water.
Watermelon vodka? That sounds cool! I’ll have to search that out.
I’m waiting to buy the version where Gwen Stefani is naked and uses the microphone as a glorified dildo, like a real Honkey Tonk Woman would do. Until then, she can kiss my Harajuku clad tukus.
hahahahahahahahahah
So Wendie, you just let business partners get away with not honoring contracts with you?
I don’t necessarily think Gwen’s got the power to pull ALL the games off the shelves.. Having said that, i would be totally pissed if i was her, so i hope she can do something about it, i think it’s bullshit.
I’m sure that Gwen (and the rest of No Doubt) had to sign some sort of contract to have their likeness used in the game. And I’m sure that contract said something about how their avatars would be singing other bands’ songs. So really, they have no case it seems. Maybe they should READ their contracts before signing off on them. And seriously, WTF. It’s JUST a video game. Waaah. You have all this money. Boo hoo. Let’s just waste thousands of dollars on legal fees because of something so dumb. The people in this country really are sue-happy.
They did sign a contract, saying that their images could be used ONLY to preform their songs, its the same bullshit that happened with the rock band Beatles edition or whatever its called, Of fucking course they don’t want their likeness singing other bands songs and the company is at fault, get your facts straight you stupid assholes.
Isn’t this the same game that Courtney Love and the remaining Nirvana members are upset with because Kurt Cobain can see non-Nirvana songs?
yeah but kurts dead. and alot of people are still heartbroken over it. i’m not a huge nirvana fan by any means, but when i saw his ‘face’ in my husband’s game informer mag i got goosebumps. it was eerie and wrong. they were trying to pull his likeness from the game all together, not just from other band’s songs.
There must be something a little sneaky about their contracts because this is now the third time that an artist and their lawyers have somehow misunderstood what their likeness was going to be used for. At this rate, these band games are going to find it harder and harder to sign willing artists.
Umm… I’m actually with Gwen Stefani on this one…
I mean, it’s one thing to have your avatar sing your songs, it’s another (but in my opinion acceptable) to have your avatar sing someone elses’ song, but what the hell is going on when a FEMALE avatar is singing in a MALE voice?
I don’t care what the song is, but the least they should do is put a female vocal track with a female avatar! (And in my opinion, most of these games are extremely lacking in female vocals in the first place – especially when the player is supposed to sing)
oh please, wendie. this is a huge company that did not honor a contract w/ gwen stefani and you’re blaming her and booing her for that??? you should be booing the company that tried to get one past her and set back their own launch.
You people are a bunch of insult happy idiots. I am not going to pretend to know what the contract said, and I don’t really care I like guitar hero not rock band. Seriously though people you guys seem to post only to insult and rant try offering some worthwhile intelligent opinions once in a while, and double check your grammer. You sound like kindergarteners.
Though I think it sucks that No Doubt has caused many little children to go without Band Hero for Christmas, I think the lawsuit is legit (of course in accordance with the legal contract signed). Gwen and the other members of No Doubt (excluding Tony) have kids. Do you think Gwen really wants her kids to say “mommy, why do you sound like a man??”
