RIP Patrick Swayze

patrick_swayze1

I just heard the terrible news that Patrick Swayze has passed away at the age of 57, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was diagnosed with the cancer in January 2008, and, from what I can tell, he survived much longer than doctors initially expected. His publicist says he died with his family by his side.

Patrick was extremely proud of his final piece of work, the A&E series The Beast, in which he starred following his cancer diagnosis.

RIP, Patrick.

  • He’s *really* gone now? I mean there’s been reports before.. That poor man fought for a long time. It looked like living torture but he seemed to try and make the best of it. I doubt I would have handled it that well.

    Rest in Peace indeed

  • RIP Patrick. You will always be one of my favorites. You fought long and hard.

This summer of death needs to end now before we enter a new season.

      • Absolutely agree BLA…..I have had one family member die from pancreatic cancer and one with a cancerous tumor on her pancreas and I’ll tell you what, it is not something a lot of people live thru sadly enough.

      • I’m 57 and have had 6 friends and family members die from pancreatic cancer over the years. It’s just so evil. Some only lived for weeks after the diagnosis and others lived for up to 3 years. We really need a much better way to test for diseases like pancreatic and anal cancers. By the time we know, it’s too late to treat!

  • THAT SUCKS! I saw a tabloid reporting he was going home to die and I had hoped it was bullshit. This news makes me very sad.

  • I’m so sad about this. I LOVED Dirty Dancing when I was younger. I used to watch it and dance along. R.I.P. Patrick, you were my first celebrity crush.

  • WOLVERINES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!R.I.P, P. Swayze. By the end of this year will there be any famous people still alive?

  • Ugh, this is not the Summer of Death. Seriously, take a look at the list of famous people who died. They were either older than nobody’s business or drug addicts and a couple of them had serious illnesses. So it’s not like some scary The Stand like plague is moving through, nature is taking its course.

    • I understand what you’re saying, but it’s still sad nonetheless. And it seems like we’ve had an exceptional amount of celebrity deaths this summer, even if it’s just “nature taking it’s course”.

      • It’s sad, of course. You can’t make fun of Roadhouse now and I loved Dirty Dancing too. He fought a good fight.

      • A man dying of cancer at the age of 57 is not “nature taking it’s course”, it’s nature being a fucking bitch!

  • I’m glad that it was you, Sasha, that reported this! Nice to see you back on here! This is beyond tragic, and I’m at a loss for words…

  • My grandfather died of pancreatic cancer six years ago. I feel so bad for his wife and kids… it’s like watching someone rot to death. There isn’t anything you can do for the person but be there at their side through it. Poor Patrick. I’m very glad for him now that he’s no longer in excruciating pain. Nobody deserves to end like that. Nobody.

  • I love all the movie quotes you guys put on here. Dirty Dancing has and always will be my favourite movie of all time! Thank you for that and much more P.S.!

    Rest in peace.

  • I was devastated when I got home from working a 12 hour shift tonight and found that Patrick died. It hits home for me because my husband died a year ago from pancreatic cancer, a terrible ravaging disease. How he must have suffered because Allan certainly did. I knew what would be in store for him when I found out last year he had it. It is fatal and gives you very little time. I wish his widow the very best and my heart goes out to you. So sad and tragic news.

  • My mom died from pancreatic cancer about eleven and a half years ago, when she was 41, and lived about as long as Patrick Swayze (after the diagnosis). It’s horrible seeing people die from Pancreatic cancer. It’s a very very slow but painful process, and it shows. My mother turned yellow and because skeletal because she lost like half of her stomach, and the chemo.

  • Patrick was one of the few hollywood stars that had class, never a scandal about him, handsome and talented..I’ll miss him in the world..RIP Patrick

  • Patrick, you had a great run and you will be missed. Red Dawn is still one of my faves. Ghost, Point Break, Dirty Dancing and of course, Roadhouse! Looks like it’s time to give Too Wong Foo and Next of Kin a chance.

Some may say you weren’t the greatest actor but you were one of the most versatile: you were great romancing, dancing and ass kicking.

One of the best dance-offs ever:

  • R.I.P. Patrick Swayze. “Life sure has a sick sense of humor, doesn’t it?” “Yo, Johnny! I see you in the next life!” – Patrick Swayze as Bodhi in Point Break. (Thanks IMDB)

  • True class, true talent, true gentleman, true to his wife and family, true to his fans, true in every way. I will never forget his first Barbara Walters interview, when she asked him about his father, and he cried. From that point on, I loved him.

RIP Patrick, prayers to your wife and family. The pain is gone.
