The Summer of Death brings us its latest victim, writer Dominick Dunne.
Dunne passed away in his Manhattan home at the age of 83 from bladder cancer. Best known for his coverage of celebrity trials, most notably that of OJ Simpson, Dunne was also a celebrated author who wrote several best-sellers, including “The Two Mrs. Grenvilles,” “An Inconvenient Woman”, “A Season in Purgatory,” and his memoirs “The Way We Lived Then: Recollections of a Well-Known Name Dropper.”
After losing greats like Dunne and Ted Kennedy all in a 24 hour span, I don’t know if my heart can take much more. Here’s hoping we make it through the next week without another American icon leaving us.
Why are you showing a pic of this old guy? He’s definitely not the LATE D. Dunne. Am I missing the joke? One old guy looks like another?
1- I hate this summer. 2- That’s not DD
I know! The photo was mislabeled! I replaced it. Too bad it wasn’t… I loved the man in that photo.
It was the best ruffled shirt ever
It’s sad that Dunne passed, but honestly he had been looking like he could have gone any minute for a while now. He had to have been suffering you know? He looked as if he was anyhow.
So what did I miss? Whose pic was posted??
RIP Mr. Dunne
WOW.. I have never seen so many tape
I really am sad, I knew he was ill and of course 83, but I really miss him – for a long while he was the only reason I kept my VF sub. Plus he was a wonder at following crime by celebrity, and the originator of classy snarkage.
“After losing greats like Dunne and Ted Kennedy”, “I don’t know if my heart can take much more”? Holy fuck! I am speechless. “I don’t know if my heart can take much more”? This has to be a fucking joke.
“I do not know if my heart can take much more”?
That has to be the absolute epitome of some witless ass fuck sucking up to its readers. Like I am suppose to believe that your heart is on the brink of collapse when two people you don’t even know die (of natural causes, no less). What will you do when someone you do know dies? A parent, or a sibling? You have summed up in one statement the utter idiocy I have been trying to point out to everyone on this site. One fucking person out of a multitude who die every day (mostly children, no less) and you act like its the end of the world when two accomplished people die at an advanced age. If I were to send you a photo everyday of an African child who died of hunger (I could probably send you a thousand) would you post a comment about how your heart can’t take it? What a pandering ass wipe you are.
If you’re so unhappy with the level of writing on this site, why don’t you just fuck right off and read a different one.
Don’t compare Dunne to Ted Kennedy. Kennedy doesn’t deserve to be in the same sentence with him.
Absolutely correct!
I think DD’s passing is more unfortunate than the lastest Kennedy death since DD was self-made, and an amazingly gifted writer. It was a pleasure to read his VF pieces. Really enjoyed DD’s reporting during the OJ trial.
Teddy-poo had a leg up on everyone just by the family he was born in to. His achievements were made much easier because of his family name and his environment. Way too much news coverage about him today, so unwarranted and nauseating.
I love the “Beet”.
And quite frankly the writing sucks practically everywhere on the internet. That being said I am going to stay here and say what I want.
Why don’t you apply the same logic to yourself? If you don’t like what others say on this site why don’t you fuck off?
> And quite frankly the writing sucks practically everywhere on the internet.
Starting a sentence with a conjunction isn’t going to win you a Pulitzer either.
Is anyone keeping track of how many famous people have died this summer so far? I think I lost track after the oxyclean guy…
The first book I read of his was “An Inconvenient Woman”… and I loved it. He never was shy about spilling the details.
The book was based on the murder of Vicki Morgan… who was the mistress of Alfred Bloomingdale.

After reading it… I made it a point to always read his articles in Vanity Fair and to buy the books he wrote. Mr. Dunne knew how to keep your interest.
Hi, Neat post. There’s a problem along with your site in web explorer, could check this? IE nonetheless is the marketplace leader and a big part of people will pass over your wonderful writing because of this problem.
