Does Ellen Pompeo Wear a Bra?

Ellen Pompeo Never Wears a Bra

The above picture of Ellen attending a Lakers / Cavs playoff game this past week, coupled with  the ones Beet posted on Thursday made me curious. Sometimes it’s obvious that she’s not wearing one. At other times– like in the picture above– I really can’t tell. It doesn’t look like she’s wearing a bra to me, but she could just be wearing a really bad one.

So I did a little research and discovered that in every single picture that has been taken of her off-set since 2007 her mammary support is questionable at best. There were a large number of strapless dresses or outfits where she was definitely braless (and it was called for). But then she opts to pass on undergarments while wearing outfits, like the camel wool shift dress pictured in the gallery below, that scream for bra coverage if for no other reason than to save one’s poor nipples from being rubbed raw by an irritating fabric. The woman must have nipples of steel.

So I’d like to play a little game. It’s called “Is Ellen Pompeo Wearing a Bra?” And the objective is simple: look through the pics below and tell me whether or not she’s wearing a bra.

My answers are:

1) No

2) No

3) No

4) No

5) No

6) No

7) No

8) No

9) No

10) No

11) No

12) No

By the way, I just want to publicly go on record as being emphatically pro-bra. Call me old fashioned and prudish, but I believe that if fitted properly, bras can make you look thinner and younger. They also help prevent a certain kind of pointing, which as your mother told you when you were little, is rude. I personally believe that bras are a usefull member of the lingerie family and that some sort of mammary support is a necessary part of any outfit.

My observations at shows and parties– and of Kristen Cavallari on the season finale of The Hills just now– seem to indicate that I am in the minority on this.

Ladies, don’t be afriad to put the girls away every now and then. You don’t want to end up looking like one of those lost Amazonian tribeswomen on the National Geographic Channel.

  • That camel shift dress photo…if that is her nipple I see, it is way too low to be attached to her actual boob and therefore must be some sort of 3rd nipple, which I’m going to assume is her reason for needing to go bral-less whenever necessary…I’ll bet the underwire is abrasive on that misplace 3rd nipple. That is my guess.

  • I can tell you that during pregnancy you aren’t supposed to be wearing bras with underwire. So really what is the point in wearing one at all right?

She looks good with or without a bra.

    • Ummm… Have you actually been pregnant? The point is getting some support to prevent tissue damage, which is important at any time, but especially when you’re pregnant. There are times in late pregnancy where it feels awkward wearing any bra at all, but getting the support is a must, throughout – likewise once you’re breastfeeding. I certainly found it acutely painful to go braless in early pregnancy.

  • I have boobs that are still (thankfully) perky, and I would NEVER, EVER, ever, ever, ever go anywhere without a bra. It’s just too much. I can’t take my eyes of boobs under a shirt with no bra. Maybe if I had tiny Ellen Pompeo tatas they wouldn’t be so graphic whilst bra-lass, but sweet jesus I couldn’t deal with the nipple chaffing.

  • I read a study recently that claimed that occasionally going braless, and always eschewing extreme push-up super support bras, will actually keep the girls perkier. Apparently, if you never go without a bra, and the bras you wear don’t let’em jiggle, your body stops making the elastic tissue that naturally hold your boobs up. If you’re worried about having breasts that hang around your knees, you should let them roam free now and again.

  • haha the lakers/cavs mistake sounds like a little inside from the NBA where they were pushing for that series as well

  • Hey Kelly,
I just wanted to say that you are an excellent writer but don’t write so much! You’re really funny and in everything you write you have 5-6 really funny lines in it, so keep it to those! I really dont mean to be rude, (I think you are a great writer!) but I just think your work would be appreciated more because I know that if its longer than 3 “scrolls” generally people are too lazy to read it.
Just makin’ a friendly suggestion here.
    =)

  • I don’t like bras, but that’s probably because I have very small boobs. If I had big boobs like hers, I’d wear a bra more often.

  • Wear a good fitting bra. I am 50 and my gyno said a couple of years ago mine were the perkiest she had seen for someone my age. If you are pregnant buy a good support bra with or without wire then buy a good nursing bra. Well worth the expense.

  • I don’t believe every woman needs to wear a bra…
I’m not a fan of nip-nip eruptions (nipple printing) but if you’ve got those perky cones… hey, they’re only gonna be perky once!

    • ^Nip-nip eruptions, perky cones,….damn bitch, you makin’ me hungry for icecream all of a sudden!

  • If she’s not wearing a bra in these pictures she doesn’t really need to wear one. She looks quite lovely either way.

  • I honestly don’t think there’s an issue whether she wears a bra or not, its up to her and good for her that she doesn’t care.
I bet its mostly guys who’d prefer she’d wear one. You guys do realize their not naturally pert and standing to attention, don’t you?

  • I haven’t worn a bra in years and don’t miss it a bit. I wear undershirts and camisoles underneath and vests, big shirts, etc. on top if I think there’s a chance I’ll show through.

I have a 28″ chest and size C/D boobs which reside mostly under my arms. I am almost impossible to fit. I once drove 85 miles one way to the Big City to be fitted. The Bali Bra lady spent 45 minutes with me and announced “I can’t fit you.” I have been fitted comfortably exactly twice in my life, once in Bermuda on my honeymoon 30 years ago.

My latest foray into Last Chance Bra Fitting involved schlepping those 85 one-way miles once more to be measured for a $100, custom made bra. When I received it I put it on and discovered it was… slightly less uncomfortable than anything else I’ve worn. At least it didn’t leave horrible red marks under my arms…

It now sits in my underwear drawer. I feel guilty every time I notice it. I’ve tried to wear it to work a couple of times and managed to make it through the day without ripping it off in the ladies’ room. I ripped it off in the car on the way home instead.

Bras, in my opinion, are appliances straight from the pits of hell. I’ll never wear another one in my life. I’ve given my all to the cause. I’ll just enjoy my vest collection from now on.
