It’s bad enough that you can’t bring your own bottled water on a flight-unless you’re willing to pay four dollars for the much safer Poland Springs crap that is for sale within the terminal, of course. But now, apparently you can’t bring your own body art either.
Joel Madden was forced to cover up his tattoos before boarding a British Airways flight this weekend. He gave in to the man and put on a long sleeve shirt and of course documented the whole thing on Twitter.
Was just told by a british air person I can’t get on the plane till I cover my tatts. Should I fight the power?
7:56 PM Apr 25th from TwitterBerryI really actually am in shock he won’t let me on the plane till I put long sleeves on and other BA rep is disagreeing

about 23 hours ago from TwitterBerryI still can’t believe Brit Air discriminated me for tatts. Unheard of. the guy was literally disgusted by me. I’m gonna write a letter!!

about 22 hours ago from TwitterBerryI did end up covering my tats. Its not my style to cause a scene I just had a convo with the BA guy told him how it was discrimination

Isn’t it comforting to know that airline security is focusing on real threats such as exposed body art? I know I’ll sleep better tonight knowing that British Airways is vigilant in their concern with the personal safety of all the passengers who could have been harmed by viewing Joel Madden’s tats.
Absolutely ridiculous
Complete discrimination. Would they make people with scars all over their body cover them up before they boarded the flight? No.
That is so silly…i mean its not like this guy looks like a skinhead/nazi or anything. Total BS.
He seems like a good guy.
Yeah, I’d tend to agree. I like that he said it wasn’t his style “to cause a scene”. It makes sense that he covered up because he wanted to get on with his flight. I do hope the employee gets fired, though. What a jackass.
I just don’t understand how his tattoos could be offensive to anyone.
I hope the BA attendant got fired, because that’s completely ridiculous.
Totally ridiculous. Not like he has “WHITE POWER” or such tattooed on his forehead or something. And I doubt they were flying coach either.
I say props to him for taking the classy way out. I know I would have probably caused a scene if it had been me, but traveling always enhances my emotions. It is so stressful already, now I have to worry about covering up my tattoos? Plus it is not like he was going to a country that would find them offense. I am assuming he was flying form London to Lisbon. I don’t think Portugal is a country that will stone him for body art.
His tats, like most sleeve tats are f’n hideous. Sorry, I just don’t get the whole tat thing in general. However, I fail to see how his are offensive or threatening to anyone. What if a person of Maori ethnicity was boarding the plane (http://webpages.charter.net/aprilxiii/webdesign/ingati/maori_tattoo.jpg)? Would they make him/her wear a mask to hide a significant part of their culture? Sounds like Britain’s airport security employs some of the genius cousins or our own TSA staff.
Ahahahahahaha.
As someone who lives in New Zealand (I’m guessing you don’t) about hmmmm 1 of every hundred maori actually have the full face moko.
yea lol. it’s pretty rare aye.
You know, I had a situation like this too, with British Airways. I was flying to London from Dallas, Texas, and was told to wear a hat (or something) to cover my (rather small) clover tattoo on the back of my neck that I got because I shaved my head for St. Baldrick’s. Ridiculous.
Shoulda made him cover his ugly face as well, idiot .
I was once stopped for wearing a Rammstein t-shirt, because it had a gun on it! They said i’d either have to change it, or turn it inside out. It’s becoming ridiculas!
HAHA They were all like ‘Careful, I think that screenprinted gun is loaded! And you must be a Nazi because you listen to German metal’ . Utterly rediculous. I could to some extent understand that sort of censorship in a school, but to board a plane? Sheesh.
Bring empty water bottles with you and once through security fill them up at a water fountain. Tap water is much better for you anyways.
Awww. He says he hadn’t felt that small since the 1st time he asked nic out…why would asking her out make him feel small?
maybe he was really nervous/afraid that she’d say no or something. that’s really sweet i think. :D
That is beyond ridiculous. They let fat, ugly people fly without making them cover up. What’s so bad about tats?
If he got on the plane dressed as Osama Bin Laden they wouldn’t have said anything. Ahhh the joys of political correctness.
@Doe – agreed on asking nic out for first time. She interviewed in his defense on what total BS it was, because all his tattoos had significant meanings either familial or religious. Good for him for not making a scene, I feel bad he seems like a decent guy and was getting crap for no reason – highly doubt this was first time he used BA with tats blazing- hope the asshole gets fired.
