Here is a realization that I just had: Hollywood seems more capable of speaking out against Jeremy Piven’s recent actions than about Chris Brown’s.
I’ve heard a ton of celebrities go on the record to call Jeremy out for dropping out of his Broadway show due to “mercury poisoning,” but nobody seems to want to go on the record to call out Chris Brown on beating the shit out of his girlfriend. In fact, Usher just issued an apology for being videotaped saying that Chris Brown should “show some remorse.” What. The. Fuck?
Anyway, here’s Felicity Huffman chatting with David Letterman about how her husband, William H. Macy, had to come to Jeremy’s rescue after he dropped out of the play. She says that William used to babysit for Jeremy when he was a child, and, she says, “in some ways you could say he’s still babysitting him.” Then she rolls her eyes a lot as Letterman prods her further about Jeremy’s “mercury poisoning.” The conversation happens around the 2:40 mark.
We can all go on national television and give Jeremy Piven a hard time for quitting a play with a bullshit excuse, but no one wants to go on television and give Chris Brown a hard time for gross domestic violence.
I don’t get it, I really don’t.
I think because beating your girlfriend is more taboo than say, being undependable.
No one wants to throw the first stone and look like an asshole when nothing comes of the Chris Brown situation.
Oh, I love our society.
Maybe Hollywoos is afraid that he’ll do to them what he did to Rihanna?
Craig Ferguson, on national television, totally nailed Chris Brown and called him out for the gigantic douche that he is. I believe it was on his Feb 13th show. It was excellent. I love Craig.
Craig Ferguson was not afraid to call out Chris Brown for the abusive douche that he is on his Feb 13, 2009 show. I love Craig.
Ok, I’ll be the one to say it. It has a lot to do with the whole gansta, homeboy, rap, young black male culture. There. I said it. And I’m not a bit sorry. When push comes to shove (no pun intended) ‘they’ tend to stick together and ‘have each others back’, plus the fact that there is little to no respect for women with this crowd. Sad.
Once again Snowdevil you prove yourself to be the racist conservative that you are.
Well, when an actor reneges, that can bring down the entire production. When C Brown beats up Rihanna, it only effects the two of them. It’s a pocketbook thing.
Someone needs to hire Madonna to beat that little thug up.
I’m still quite surprised that many here have thought that this would end Brown’s career. As I said before, his community and colleagues are both very forgiving of any and all transgressions. R Kelly is still widely respected and loved, although he’s been sleeping with underage girls for well over a decade and has no intention of stopping. There were celebrations when OJ was found not guilty. On and on it goes.
What was she supposed to say? “Look Dave, I know you’re asking me about Jeremy Piven, but what I really want to do is call out Chris Brown…”?!! Come on Beet, there’s a time and a place…
well it’s easy to be light and jokey about something like alleged mercury poisoning…. but it’s a whole different thing to talk about domestic abuse. I feel like the latter is far more important.. it’s just a hard topic to bring up. Especially when these people are usually just trying to promote some crap project. They want to keep the audience happy, not depressed.
Because celebrities will not go near a REAL (aka serious) topic within a million miles. Ever been on a Set? No one talks to anyone for fear of saying something wrong. And, in public???? forget about it!
Hear hear! These kinds of debates are why I love evilbeet.
Oh and btw – on a completely different and very superficial note, does anyone else have massive hate for Felicity Huffman’s hairstyle in that video? Just… no honey no.
Because nobody knows the real story. There hasn’t been an official case or an official statement from Rhianna. Can you guys actually sit down and think of the legal issues here not the tidbits of information coming from sources such as TMZ? Please.
felicity was amazing in “transamerica” – love her.
I’m with you Beet — I don’t get it either.
Mercury poisoning is real folks. And it is hell. Nothing to joke about and Felicity – you just opened the door to horrible karma by mocking it. Just because our 3rd rate health care system doesn’t recognize it, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. If only people knew the truth…
