The show has been picked up for a 19th and 20th season.
I didn’t realize this shit was still going so strong!
Survivor: Gabon, the most recent incarnation, averaged 13.8 million viewers among adults 18-49, dominating its Thursday 8 pm slot.
I guess I’m not really in a position to judge, since I still love Idol after eight seasons, but Survivor bored me from day one. What’s the appeal? Bitchy, dirty, old people on an island? I also don’t understand how The Amazing Race is still filming new seasons. Doesn’t the same old format start boring audiences after, oh, ten seasons? If you still watch these shows, please explain.
I’m not going to complain too much about all this, though. It is clearly God’s will for these shows to succeed, and I don’t want to offend Him. He might retaliate by bringing back Fear Factor.
I totally agree! People need to learn when to let go of things, sort of like not overstaying your welcome. There’s a moment in time when things are still going good that you just gotta say it’s been fun, but I’m outta here. Simpsons running for 2 more years is just too much.
Why should it be let go if it is still dominating it’s time slot???
Obviously there are people out there that like it.
I dislike it when people bitch and moan about a show because “THEY” don’t like it…
I hated Friends, never saw more than 2 episodes, but I understood obviously that others did like it, so let it be.
I suggest others do the same.
Besides if they did remove it, they would probably replace it with a 7th Law and Order spinoff…
You’re about as lovely as a life-sucking cactus.
I was not “bitching and moaning” and I didn’t even say I didn’t like Survivor. Sometimes it’s just good to let go of something that’s still fairly OK for a new opportunity of something bigger and better- that was my point. Don’t be so quick to be rude and judgmental.
I love to see the locations, places I will never get to see in my life, either because I am not interested, never knew of the beauty so would never have thought to have gone…
The twists and turns on Survivor are phenomenal.
And sometimes you get to see true people and the way they are…
I disagree about Amazing Race. It is fun to watch and they do change it up. Lots of good teams and FANTASTIC locales. I still think it has legs.
I was TOTALLY gonna say that there’s an exception for the Amazing Race! hehe great minds think alike
this might be a duplicate post, sorry
I’m still watching survivor. To me, its still interesting. Idk why, but it is. Maybe ’cause I didn’t watch the first 6 seasons. Its kinda boring at times but, all in all, its pretty great. Especially the Gabon(17 season) finale. It was amazing. I hated it that it wasn’t my favourite who won but there was some pretty intense dialog at the final tribal council.
I still totally watch both. I stopped watching Survivor from like season eight until last season, and maybe that’s why I haven’t sworn it off yet like most of my friends. The Amazing Race is one of the best reality shows out there, I’ve watched it from day one!
I miss my favorite reality tv show, The Mole!
I wish that would come back :(
You say: Doesn’t the same old format start boring audiences after, oh, ten seasons? If you still watch these shows, please explain.
How is Idol any different? Why do you even ask this question? This baffles me.
Thank you.
I still watch it. Part of the fun is watching dump Americans that would either murder each other or die of starvation if they were stranded for real.
I like catching them “cheating” reality on the show. For example someone decides to go fishing and they “just happen” to have a diver ready with the camera in an underwater housing on stand-by to take those lovely underwater shots. Or someone decides to climb a mountain and they “just happen” to have a helicopter with a Wescam Camera mount for the lovely flying pass shot. Or someone shoots a bow and arrow during a challenge and the cameraman somehow has the perfect close-up of the arrow striking the top corner of the target as if he is psychic.
Hey! :)
ps. you’re a dump canadian :P
Yeah I love how you misspelled dumb
You rocket scientists never make a typo before?
Survivor is very proud that they are American participants only. At the final episode the host always brings up “America” as if that is the only country that has television sets.
You guys made it American-centric. Not I.
DP, you are the most defensive non-American I’ve ever seen outside a Al-Qaeda training camp. Why are you so insecure about being Canadian? I like Canada. It’s our little hat.
That’s right Beet, there are only two types of people: American supporters and Terrorists.
America is hated around the globe. You haven’t woken up to that fact?
I love how even though the men immediately start to grow ridiculous beards, you rarely (if ever?) see any body hair on the women. They also never seem to struggle through their period without modern conveniences and their teeth always look amazingly white. I’m no expert though, having only seen enough episodes to make about three seasons combined – I’m sure someone will jump to correct me.
That is the sort of “fake reality” that I like to watch the show to catch.
They obviously want cute women with big boobs in bikinis. That is why they always choose a warm climate instead of say Alaska or Canada as the location. Of course they provide the women with razors to shave their pits and legs.
A lot of wannabe actresses go on this show in the hopes of getting a career after. They want to look as good as possible considering the conditions.
If you watch closely you will see that the women are also provided a change of clothing after a while. You suddenly start noticing new articles of clothing appearing.
“That’s right Beet, there are only two types of people: American supporters and Terrorists.

DP, Yeah, I don’t agree with you at all. In the world there are American wannabes, terrorists, the ones who don’t care and the ones who dislike America and don’t want to kill the inhabitants. America is not the most important country in the world, as you make it sound like. I love America, I’d like to move there but I am aware of its ups and downs. Which one of that category are you?
I love THE AMAZING RACE. I find it very interesting seeing how people travel together….a great way to show their personal ways of dealing with challenges of their relationships. Ever travel with a friend and not survive the trip?
And I love seeing parts of the world I would never see otherwise.
hot for jeff and phil.
It’s my grandparents. We went out to eat with them the other day, and they were like, “Did you watch Survivor last night?” and we were all basically like, “Um, not for the past six years, maybe.” Sigh. And let’s talk about my other grandparents watching CSI: Miami marathons every time I come over. Can’t get enough of it!
my grandparents used to watch baywatch all the time! it was their favorite.
I can’t believe people are still watching American Idol. Don’t get me wrong, Survivor is just about as retarded, but at least it’s not basically an amateur karaoke show. I have no fucking clue what people see in either of them.
because people like to watch people fail
sirfuller, I totally agree with you. That’s just the world everywhere you go. And I’m from Romania!
Oooh, I know why people are still watching survivor! The background behind Jeff kind of looks like a moving circle illusion, it hypnotizes people to keep watching even if they don’t want to.
Still watch them both! Haha! We want to be on The Amazing Race soooooooo bad!!
(BTW, just made it to New Orleans.)
Have a great weekend Beet! I’m out!
I have started to watch both shows again. I was a die hard Idol fan the first season, but then I wasn’t really impressed with anyone the second season so it kind of died for me after that. Especially seeing who has won, no one has impressed me too much, besides Kelly ;)
I watched the first season of Survivor and I guess I like it because I like to go camping and I think it is something I would enjoy doing. Challenging myself to see if I could relly survive out int he wild! But then again, having Bear Grylls with me wouldn’t be half bad either! Mostly as eye candy…
And I have a new found LOVE for Amazing Race!! I started watching again last season, after pretty much never following a whole season. It got kind of lame at the end when I wasn’t really rooting for anyone, but this one team known as Dandrew just kept squeaking by and no one understood why! Here is a clip you should watch to enjoy their amazing failures:
This season on Race, Ned Schneebly and his awesome Dad are a team, and how can you NOT root for them. There is a much better cast this season and they switched thigns up and cut out a lot of the boring airport time, such a big plus! Definitely check out the Amazing Race Beet! Plus Phil, host of TAR, is much better than Jeff Probst, the jackass host of Survivor.
oops! forgot the link!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H62VUclX6mI
keep in mind, this happens after Dandrew has failed getting their “socks” on for a good amount of time, gave up, went to the other task, didn’t have the uniform on, put it on, went back to try the marching you see here, fail at that then decide to go back to the other task again and finally succeed. going from the 3rd team? to pretty much the last team. Awesome
I’ve watched every episode of Survivor since Richard Hatch landed on the shores of Borneo back in 2000. Sure there are seasons that are horrible (Thailand anybody??), but the allure of each new season rests upon the exciting new locales and the characters who are competing. Personally, I much prefer the second half of any season (once the tribes have merged) that’s when the most drama unfolds. Survivor is one of TV’s greatest social experiments, it’s the grandfather of reality TV, and has provided hours of entertainment for the entire world. I think we should all just give the respect it deserves and continue to let Survivor dominate for as long as it wants.
it may be the grandfather but The Real World is the great-grandfather!
I admit I pretty much gave up on it after the Vegas season. It got way too far away from original concept of 7 strangers living together and learning from each other and turned into a giant orgy of hook-ups, partying and fights. But this new season they seem to be getting back to the original Real World, which I like very much.
I don’t understand how 18-49 year olds find teen celebs interesting. High School Musical? Please explain.
I had actually never seen any HSM before lst weekend I think, when there was a marathon on TV. I watched it because my guilty pleasures are super cheesy TV movies, like the Lifetime holiday specials and stuff.
I’m 23, but I guess a reason people older than 18 like those movies so much is that it might bring them back to their youth. Like it kind of reminds me of dancing to Grease when I was younger. I don’t really care for any teen celebs, except maybe Zac Efron, but I had only really seen him in Hairspray before recently, and Dakota Fanning, because I think she is a great actress. So I guess I can’t help you much ;) Harry Potter is a different story…love me some Ron!
Beet, Amazing Race is the best… new couples every year and how they interact and bitch at each other under pressure in foreign locations that sometimes are just breathtaking is awesome! Best show on TV, then Idol… try catching Amazing Race; you won’t be disappointed! Never got into Survivor, you hit that one spot-on ( as Simon would say)
For those of us who don’t get to travel regularly, the amazing race is literally amazing. I could care less for most teams most seasons, but I love seeing locations I may not see for real in my lifetime.
Survivor sucks, I gave up Idol last season, and don’t miss it even a little, but my wife and I still really enjoy DWTS.
I guess documentaries are too boring for the American junk food brain. It has to be an idiotic reality show where people run around like a game show.
The show is environmentally irresponsible. You gotta wonder what the carbon footprint of this show is as the American contestants fly their fat asses around the world for a game show.
Just because I watch Amazing Race, doesn’t meant that I also don’t enjoy a good documentary!
TV in general is environmentally irresponsible! So is your computer. Maybe you should stop using both, so you can have a totally green lifestyle. I for one wouldn’t mind moving out to the woods, building a cabin and living off the land, but right now my plan is to finish architecture school, become licensed in the next 5 years, and contribute sustainable, well designed, exciting projects to the world that will help enrich our lives instead of polluting them.
So excuse me if I like to take a little break from my work and school and chill out for a little bit to enjoy a reality TV show! I also enjoy Mad Men, Freaks and Geeks, Extras, Planet Earth, among others, all amazing shows that do take a little brain activity to enjoy.
Fear Factor is even better than Idol!
I gave up on survivor once they started with haves and have nots but Amazing Race is still an action packed hour that wins the Emmy award every season.
