Hey, guys, in case you haven’t noticed, TMZ ran a photo taken of Rihanna after she got her ass kicked by Chris Brown.
Now the Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the leak of the photo from its files, saying in a statement it “takes seriously its duty to maintain the confidentiality of victims of domestic violence.”
Said Rihanna’s father, Ronald Fenty, when asked about the photo leak: “It’s good and it’s bad to see the picture because there’s other people who were thinking differently, that (Rihanna’s injuries) may not be that bad, just a little spank or a little thing.”
TMZ chief Harvey Levin insists the photo of a bruised Rihanna that his website published last night was “represented” as totally legit when they secured it — that is, it wasn’t stolen from the LAPD. Riiiight, Harvey. I’m so sure you thought that the LAPD was happy to sell you a photo of a domestic violence victim. The mayor probably even offered to autograph it, right?
Oh, and for those of you who think I shouldn’t have run that photo: I don’t know about you guys, but it’s my job to read all the comments posted on this site, on ALL Rihanna/Chris Brown posts, and I’ll tell you that the comments claiming that Rihanna “had it coming” or that Chris Brown was “still their hero” have died WAY DOWN since this photo leaked last night. That’s was the intended result, and I hope this photo helps show the world that the end result of domestic violence is not something to be excused or explained. Well worth any charges of “hypocrisy” in my mind.
I understand why you posted it after it had been leaked, but I think it shouldn’t have been leaked in the first place. It was a very disturbing photo, and I’m sure I never want to see someone as beautiful as Rihanna, look so horrible and beaten.
I, for one, am hoping that Chris Brown gets his time in jail, and as much as I wish for him to be dropped from his label, I realize that is not going to happen.

I think it was positive because this is a highly public case, and a photo like that, shows the context better… yes, it is unfortunate that a domestic violence evidence was leaked, but it was the thing to do. I’m glad you posted it.

I feel sorry for Rihanna’s embarrassment over the leak pictures because you know she was mortified for the public to see them. However I am glad they were shown so all the ignorant people out there that can’t fathom something like it actually happened could see them. What a total loser is Chris Brown. Never cared much for his “music” prior to this and will definately never listen to him again. There is no excuse for violence.

It’s not that I disagree about your statement,but I don’t think that how you grew up is always a barometer for future behaviour.My boyfriend grew up with a very abusive father,who not only beat him,but even beat his mother when she was pregnant with his sister.To this day,he is afraid that it might be genetic or something,but he is nothing like his father,and I tell him that.He himself says that it is every man’s choice,and he would never even consider taking his anger out on a woman.Chris Brown has no real excuses.This is definitely no one time incident.So he obviously doesn’t truly believe it’s a bad thing.

I think that posting it was your job. It had been leaked and people were going to see it anyways. There is no reason to try to “make a statement” by not posting it. People should try to understand that it’s your job to report news about celebrities, and this was a very big story. It’s dumb for people to think that you’d just ignore the situation completely. I think showing this picture does what Rihanna is unable to do yet for some reason, and makes a statement for her. It brings a really big issue into the publics eye in a very unsettling way. People try to ignore things like this, but that just makes it worse because it makes abusers think they can get away with it.

i wish i had never seen the picture. i understand why you ran it and don’t fault you for doing so. i just can’t stand to see pictures of battered women. i find it far too distressing.
I see both merits and debits to the world seeing leaked photo of a battered and bruised Rihanna. Ditto for Beet posting it.
But I do love the fact that on the same day that Beet posted the battered Rihanna pic from TMZ, Beet also posted a picture of Rihanna from happier times, looking vibrant and beautiful, a guise most of us are looking forward to seeing from Rihanna in the near future.
And also a good way to show the comparison between her normal,happy self,and what she looked like after the abuse.Makes the difference that much more a reality.

Regardless of whether or not Rihanna is actually hurt or embarassed by those photos leaking, it was ABSOLUTELY not the place of the person at LAPD who sold that picture to TMZ to do so. It’s a revolting violation of victim privacy. I have no problem with Beet running the photo (if it’s out there, it’s out there, frankly), but I do have a MASSIVE problem with the leak at the LAPD. Fucking SICK!

Surprised they didn’t shut the leak down after TMZ published a pic of Billy bob’s son (age 14 — 10 in the pic) and the investigation of him having sex with a 22 year-old woman. At least this one was an adult.

Verbal abuse is as toxic for the abuser as it is for the victim. You tend to surround yourself, on this blog, by immature people who admire your verbally cruel excesses. I think every woman that is a victim of domestic abuse should post their pictures….pictures of the violaters right beside it too…hopefully their jail booking picture. I am a domestic abuse (survivor), show the pictures, show what can happen. Maybe that way we can prevent it. Tigerlille get a life you obviously have not being verbally abused, I have, and what Beet is about is not something you can catoregorize as verbal abuse. You just minimize abuse by saying it is.
