Technically I don’t post on Evil Beet anymore… so I suppose that means I can’t get fired!
However, I’m sure EB would want y’all to see this festive Joaquin Phoenix appearance on Letterman last night. He was on to promote his new movie, Two Lovers. I’d say it went great! Well, except for he’s clearly channeling Andy Kaufman at this point.
For the record I still think it’s all an act. A lovely capt. insano act.
Keep it real! – Lars
lars!!! what a lovely surprise!!! miss you lots!!!
y’all come back now real soon….
good to hear from you lars. you should check in more often!
rock on!
But I love him, Daddy! Love. Love. Love. Joaquin.
Whoa. I sure hope it’s an act. I had to watch it three times, lol. Andy Kauffman, lmao, spot on. Miss you Lars!
Unabomber? How awkward. Hiya Lars!
Is Lars hot?
I was just channel surfing lastnight and I saw this and Letterman was trying so hard to interview him and he was making it so difficult
love you lars!
you should be a regular poster here!!!!!
No, Lars is most decidedly NOT hot. However, Evil Beet looks past that and loves me for me. Hopefully.
don’t listen to him. lars IS hot in every possible way. including his ability to write. in fact, he is “write hot”.
Who is Spiteful Lars? I’m intrigued.
We all are. It’s a real mystery. I’m sure Beet will unveil it at some point… as everyone else on here is now legit.
<3 <3 missed you Lars
Crazy, or barbituates…
My brother called me this morning and told me I had to check this out. How painful to watch! I really hope this is an act because I would hate to see another Phoenix go out tragically.
HA.. that was insane!!!!
I think he’s falling down a well and so now he’s doing this ‘I’m so crazy act’ to cover it up. I know he says he’s not acting – but my guess is he’s using this purposeful awkwardness to hide his shame. It’s like he’s sixteen years old, self destructing both as an f* off to everyone and because he can’t help it.
god, what a frigging weirdo. how sad. he used to be so hot.
I think he has had a mental breakdown. Very sad….
I think it couldn’t be more obvious that it’s an act, despite what his publicists have said. Lars nailed it with the Andy Kaufman connection. Dave was completely in on it, because there’s a difference between when he’s acting, and just awkwardly interviewing. I’ve seen both. I’m sure some of this will end up in whatever documentary they’re filming. And it would be fantastic if he did, in fact, end up back on the show as a musical guest.
I think it’s an act, too. Pulling an Andy Kaufman is dead on.
If you watch the raw clip, right at the end, he turns away from the camera, takes his glasses off and speaks with Letterman very quickly and candidly (not stuttered like before)…yeah, methinks it’s an act.
I seriously HOPE it’s an act. Because then I would laugh and laugh and be all better. But if it’s not, then I will cry deeply because I love Joaquin Phoenix. They were being so mean to him! Yes, he’s crazy, but still…DON’T MAKE FUN OF MY PHOENIX! <3 him and always will. If he was doing Johnny-Cash type stuff…or ANYTHING besides hip-hop, then I couldn’t give a shit. But as it stands…it’s just insane. Totally insane.
Poor baby.
That was definitely very strange, most awkward. I hope that was all an act, but why?? I’m missing something here…
Spiteful Lars!!! My fave contributor! Yay!! I miss you. =(
I was tweeting to a friend about this last night and she kept saying that he didn’t seem to know what he was doing or who was in the movie with him, etc.
I can’t even watch this… how ridiculous.
Joaquin never tried too hard in interviews in the past, he seemed to hate it. It was never like this though…Come on, Joaquin, at least give Dave more than one-word answers! This was so uncomfortable.
Krispin Glover styles.
i thought it was an act too, but he seemed genuinely pissed at dave towards the end
In my opinion, it was definately an act and Letterman reacted brilliantly. The funniest part was when dave aid,”I’m sorry you couldn’t be here tonight, Joaquin.” It was almost Monty Python genius.
He’s a loser and we won’t miss him in his rap oblivion.
He’s in the prcess of filming a documentary about his life, in fame. It’s all for his own cameras.
Joaquin likes to take roles as the odd man out, but that works for him as an actor so this interview with Letterman might complement his career
