Even Nicole Kidman Knows How Much She Sucks

Australia was an epic fail.  As if you needed further encouragement to wait for it to come out on Netflix, even Nicole Kidman thought it was a bad movie.  Yeah, she squirmed through watching this thing.  In a radio interview she admitted that sitting in a theater, and watching her performance in Australia, made her flee the country.

She said she was so nervous about her performance that she fled Australia as soon as the premiere was over with her husband and their five-month-old daughter Sunday Rose.

“We ran because I didn’t want to read anything. I didn’t want to know.”

I hate to break this to Nic, but there are scathing critics in every country.

  • I haven’t even seen Australia but I am willing to bet 1 million dollars that I could make a better movie about Australia with 1/9000909564564 of the budget that Australia had. Actually somebody buy me a video camera and a reliable 4WD and I will make a movie about Australia and it will have horrific acting but will be a cult classic.

And there will be no Nicole Kidmans or Nicky Websters to be seen.

  • if a director cant coax nicole kidman into a good performance, he sucks. shes a capable, though alien-looking, actress.

  • I’m a fan of Kidman, but I thought she was surprisingly terrible in the first hour; she was basically a caricature. She eventually turned back into a real person, and I remembered why I like her.

  • I’m not crazy about her, but at least she’s honest about her acting. I haven’t seen it, OK I won’t, but from what I’ve read about the movie, it was the producer & director who could not bring this dull story to life.
So maybe Nicole should cut herself some slack.

  • Nicole Kidman is FUCKING bizarre! Truly, how would you like to be the woman that even Tom Cruise considered to fucking weird to stay married to? He epitomizes fucked-up and she was even to much for him to handle. I am speechless when it comes to this anomaly. Did she eat a multitude of paint chips as a kid? GOD!!!! I hope her fucking plane crashes on its way back to the States!

    • you are such a sweetheart, why don’t you put a picture of yourself up so we can see if you are as hot as you sound?

      • “Hot as I sound”? Hmmm!!!
        Lets not spoil the fun.
As the saying goes ‘Lets save room for desert”.

      • I was going to click on the link you provided, but then I noticed it was from the uk and it was written by the bbc. However low my brain function is it far exceeds that of anyone at the bbc.

      • Silly kid, regardless of your fear of the BBC, it is news BBC, so its independently sourced and simply collated by the BBC.

No-one is smarter than the BBC, it is the genesis of all good mini-series.

      • Your joking, right? Please tell me you are. The BBC is the british (notice I didn’t capitalize) version of msnbc (I didn’t capitalize for those fuckers either) . How fucking simple can you get? (when I use the term “simple” I am being sarcastic, but with you I’m am sure it is so apropos. “The genesis of all good mini-series”? My God your a fucking idiot. The bbc is independent!I have never laughed so hard in my life.

  • I liked the movie. I am an Aussie living in Canada with my Canadian boy who has never been home with me. I liked it, he liked it, all the audience seemed entertained and happy, and my Aussie friend who came with us, and is one of those people who HATES things, liked it. The little boy in it was adorable, and it was a nice documentation of that small segment of Australia’s history. Regardless of Nicole Kidman’s part (and I thought she did fine) it was lovely to show someone I love part of my heritage – I grew up mustering cattle on cattlestations. though further south than in the movie. Im glad those of you who enjoyed it enjoyed it.

  • Through most of her film roles Nicole Kidman more or less comes off as the tall poppy with whispery voice and an ice queen propensity. If not that, she tries too hard to come across as a serious actress and unfortunately, falls short when it comes to her range of expressive capabilities. The continual typecasting of Kidman has also derided any credibility to her onscreen presence.

So many of her film roles depicted meaty characters that perhaps other actresses may have illuminated better, if even just with a more natural / relaxed / realistic approach to acting compared to the stagey ‘Nicole’ syndrome. I wanted so much to give credence to Kidman’s acting capacity even from her early days in film, as she seemed to have a promising screen persona. Truth is, I always expected more but came away disappointed :( At times, I even felt that the casting of her was the sole reason why many films that could have been great were destroyed.

Take, for comparitive purposes, actresses like Rose Byrne, Jennifer Connelly, or even Dianne Kruger – attractive, classy, but still devoted to acting as an art, rather than acting for popularity or self-aggrandizement. The subtlety in as well as choice of their expressions, use of physical space, and voice point toward a more natural approach to acting which raises their skill levels to above par status when placed next to a piece of cardboard like Nicole. Many times I’ve wondered why Nicole would gawp, sigh, mock-flirt, despair, pace around, or break into a fit of giggles like a clueless schoolgirl when most anybody else would not have reacted in such a way. Kidman could learn a lot from her contemporaries, but may be too vain or self-satisfied to admit it! Even Lauren Bacall, who hails from a different, more savvy era of Hollywood altogether, was spot-on in her description of Nicole as merely a ‘beginner’, rather than a ‘legend’ (the latter, a term too loosely applied to several modern actors who haven’t even begun to scratch the surface of what it means to wield command onscreen). In fact, Kidman owes her audience a great debt.

So basically, what does that leave us with? My guess is that her career was built on hype and spectacle, rather than a true nod to any notion of depth in acting. I am convinced that she herself is aware of this, and exploits it for whatever monetary gain it has to offer. Unfortunately, these days, the phenomenon of star appeal in Hollywood seems to chip away at and sadly, supersede proper acknowledgement of those with real talent.

  • i think nicole kidman is pretty cool and amazing if she believe in her self she has nothing to worry about.

  • This is by far the worst movie I have ever seen, a total waste of my precious time and have decided that Nicole Kidman along with the rest of the crew are idiots for even contemplating accepting the roles they played in this extremely boring, poorly written, poor excuse for a movie with no plot and worst of all no ENDING!!!! Stupid lines, stupid acting, slow as molasses. It made me want to throw up!
