Lily Allen Sucks Life Out of Womanizer

Lily Allen has done a cover of Britney Spears’ Womanizer.  A couple of things immediately come to mind:  1)  This song was just released a couple months ago.  We’re already doing remakes?  2)  I am so completely depressed listening to this version.  Like, get me some Lithium, hide all the razors, I need a pen and some paper to jot down a few final thoughts depressed.

What do you all think?  Better than or worse than Britney?  And was a cover of this really necessary ninety days out from the original release?

    and yes… the song does sound royally boring and dull… and I can’t stand that mockney accent of hers.

  • I first heard this song as a thirty second clip and my first thought was that Lily’s voice sounded much better at the low tone than Britney’s did.

    Unfortunately, I have to agree that Britney’s version is a lot more interesting and, even though Lily’s voice sounds better, I’m going to have to go with Britney on this one.

  • Lily Allen has amazing vocal talent. I think both versions are cool.

    These instant covers are very hip nowadays.

    Has Lily had work done? She looks different.

    • Come on!! The woman CAN’T sing! At all! She’s not “somebody” because of her vocal skills. She is where she is because she had a pretty body and a pretty face, then she became the mess she is right now, and she is “somebody” because off all the scandals that surround her.
      And honestly, I’d rather be “nobody” than the mess she is. She is paying a HUGE price for her fame. For that price I rather keep my own life.

      • Oh really? THE WOMAN SHAVED HER HEAD IN FRONT OF EVERYBODY! She spent the last few years getting in and out of rehab, she is a single mother, she can’t take care of her two poor kid. She used to be pretty, she had a great body. Now her skin is ugly, her body is a disaster for so much puking and eating crap.
        It’s just sad, it really makes me sad, because she is only a year older than me, is she is just so screwd up.
        And by the way, you didn’t have any reason to attack me. I believe there is a “Comments” area in this blog so everyone can give their opinion.

  • there are parts of it that sound not bad lily-style, although it’s totally obvious that it’s not *her* song. and the chorus parts… so clearly written for britney-style electro-pop, it just sounds like somebody singing along to their ipod otherwise.
    lily’s got a cool voice and a good style, so i have no clue why she’s doing things that were made for somebody so different from her.

    • This is only a record company choice. just like Mr. blue sky and don’t get me wrong. Lily Allen explained that she needed to do extra work for them.

  • I like Lily’s better. She actually has a good voice, and it’s not auto-tuned to death. I agree with people above that the song itself is styled better for more upbeat Brit-pop, but I think Lily’s version sounds kind of cool IMO. Especially the beginning.

  • I like it. I don’t think she’s actually putting it on an album or anything. She just recorded it for fun. I like Lily’s better, sorry. Brit’s is good too though.

    • Too many British singers sound American when they sing. I think there is nothing fake about Lily Allen”s voice, (considering she speaks that way, everyday how could it be fake) If your annoyed just walk away,and stay there.

  • she does covers of a lot of songs, no matter who sings it or the genre. I think she just has fun with it, and I think it’s really cool.
    I find it entertaining and I like her voice

  • I am absolutely ADDICTED to the song ‘womanizer.’ and that’s really saying something, because i usually hated Britney Spears’s music. But I will openly admit that I really really like ‘womanizer’ and the whole ‘Circus’ album on a whole.
    I’ll also admit that I’m a huge Lily Allen. She has an amazing voice, and she’s absolutely gorgeous.

    But this song SUCKS. Hardcore. Horrible. F-. Complete fail.

  • Womanizer is such a shitty song. Any person that thinks otherwise should have their eardrums pierced with ice picks.

  • It was totally famewhorish of her to do this so soon, but I have to admit that her British accent makes everything she does so cool to me.

  • I prefer Lilly’s version. At least in this one you can tell someone is actually singing and not having her voice totally altered by some machine.

  • If you clowns thin Lily Allen is even a mediocre singer, there are obviously several thousand others you have overlooked. I’m really not sure why she is famous. She can’t sing well. And she’s not sexy. Well, maybe to the English she’s sexy. They don’t have much to go on.

  • At least in Lily’s version you can hear her VOICE, instead of synthesized robo-vocals. Having said that, her version isn’t good, but it’s still better than the craptacular original. If she’d done it slower, as in done a version instead of a cover, it could have been interesting.

    Don’t get me wrong, I love Brit, but that song was god-awful.

  • The only thing good about that song in the first place is the beats behind it – lets face it, it’s not that great. Sorry. And Lilly Allen has taken the only thing good out of it.

  • This reminds me a bit of when Alanis Morisette did that slowed version of “Humps”. I think it’s funny. Slowing it really makes you listen to lyrics and realize how amazingly bad they are. I’m all for taking the piss out of pop songs. Good fun.

  • How LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMEEEEEEEEE. How dare Lily try to even ATTEMPT to steal Britney’s thunder. Something she (and her publicists) have worked so hard to gain back. I enjoy Lily’s music but come on…you can’t just slap an accent on any ‘ol song (that hasn’t even had a chance to be featured on the ‘best hits’ yet) and make it cool. Boo. I get uncomfortable listening to this version. :/

  • I think this version is good. Yet, it’s not very original. She just sang the song slower. Also, I think that it’s too early to do a cover, and I think she’s just trying to capitalize off of Brit’s current popularity.

    • These should be the ONLY” opinions that really matter! WHAT do you THINK of Lily Allen”s music? I don’t believe it matters when people write blogs about things that may or may not have happened, or what she MIGHT” have said! The truth is when you watch video taped interviews Lily Allen will clear up weather she did what you think she did! or weather its a lie(sometime she just touches on the subject) she has to be careful with her answers. Newspapers and blogs always say that she talks too much, but that’s they’re excuse, because they’re the ones doing the talking. She’s a character but she’s not that person you read about! A video taped interview will show you a very different person. Someone that’s funny, cute and pretty nice. By the way the cover of womanizer is better!

  • it’s probably just radio 1 live lounge or something, where they all sing covers. I doubt she’s releasing it. But she does a lot of things like this – there’s a YouTube video of her singing a really light, poppy version of Keane’s Somewhere Only We Know – it’s excruciating. She butchers it.

    • Right now, it seems difficult, to find Lily Allen”s version of Keane’s Somewhere only we know but, going by Lily Allen”s version of Naive, I don’t think she can butcher, any song that they do. Keane has a better version, but Lily Allen did just fine. By The way, Womanizer was extra work, for the internet (only) so your right!

    • The Good name of Britney? Britney Spears! good name! HA HA HA come out from under your rock! She can’t sing, and does not write her songs, shes a tragic image, built by the record companies that gave her the job, because…I have to say I don’t know why! Her looks? no, she messed that up, her singing voice? No! she sounds like an infant, and that’s after her voice is altered by a machine, her personal life? No the papers make sure she doesn’t have one, since she married that trailer trash guy,! Lily Allen speaks her mind, sometimes, and yes, she can be wrong, sometimes, but she laughs at her mistakes when she makes them. The press needs to count the days and weeks that she’s sober instead of going back to last June when she wasn’t. She’s the only one voicing her opinion, about, the image of what record companies, and tabloid newspapers, do to people in the music business. And that’s why she gets in trouble!

  • It’s not a good song to begin with. “Womanizer” is just repeated over and over again and any song that uses the expression “front” is just ridiculous.

    And tons of artists are covering current songs. Remember “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley? Everyone had a cover of it. They are fun and kind of just for the moment. I mean really, is Womanizer going to stand the test of time?

    • She could have picked a better cover! Given her track record for picking songs. Mr Blue Sky was good, Naive was good, Don’t get me wrong was good, she has a tendency to choose bands like the Kaiser Chiefs, or Squeeze, so you can tell this wasn’t really her choice. The papers say Mark Ronson suggested it> It will get buried like her version of Blank Expression. Which is good, because that’s what this particular song needs to do.

  • Britney Spears is a modern day Geisha Girl. She is a prisoner kept in cage. Lily Allen is an elitist, spoiled girl from a rich family with a huge sense of entitlement. Why do people idolize either of these woman?

    • She’s not spoiled, anyone can tell by listening to her, and not paying attention to what people write down. If you don’t like her move on. She worked hard, from the time she was 15 years old. Her talent gave her the second best selling album in Great Britain, with 5 Brit award nominations. Including best new artist. So don’t end up like alias Keith Allen, because he’ll just end up killing his children if they turn out like him! Find out what you do like then make a comment!

  • Come on, it sucked more than Lily does with any guy she meets.
    How can you listen to anyone who says drugs are fun and she’d rather be drunk than sober?
    She’s a complete and total whore who sings crappier than Britney ever did and that’s saying a lot! :o

    • Lily Allen sued a magazine for writing false drug comments. She also wrote that she does not like to drink, to excess because it’s unfair to the people that pay to see her. Normally when I don’t like something I don’t pay attention, that’s normal that’s not you!
