• i feel like he probably just took the donations to avoid offending her, you know? i’m not making excuses for him, i just don’t think he did anything wrong. john mccain didn’t do anything wrong in having a brother who apparently called 911 about traffic, but that one’s a more interesting story.

• Obama says he didnt know about his aunt’s illegal status and says that now the appropriate actions should be taken. Enough with the guilt-by-association crap already.

• Guys, have you donated money to Obama? He isn’t there waiting for you personally. She’s one of millions who donated via the internet or campaign offices. They don’t check your passport or visa, they just accept. As much as I like Obama, and will vote for him, this sort of thing isn’t acceptable. If a law says, donations only from citizens or permanent residents, then just follow the law and create a better tracking system. It’s not rocket science and it avoids a lot of problems.

What is frightening is the number of people in this country who are deluded enough by some twisted and misguided sense of simple-minded, unquestioning patriotism that they will vote for him.

  I think you guys are being a bit melodramatic. There is no reason to compare Obama with Hitler and his supporters with the Nazi party. This nation won’t turn into a dictatorship, or a communist nation, and if you think so you really ought to travel to China, Saudi Arabia, or Congo, and see what living under a dictatorship really is like. Repealing a tax cut which only affects 2% of Americans, who are mostly millionaires or billionaires isn’t Marxism. Taxes build roads, bridges, schools, hospitals, they pay soldiers and veterans and fund cancer research.

  If you don’t like Obama or don’t like his plans, then don’t vote for him. There is no need to keep trashing him, and his supporters, or make elaborate scenarios about a Big-Brother-Is-Watching-You society under his leadership.

  I personally don’t think McCain’s plans will get this country anywhere, so I simply won’t vote for him. Easy as that.

• I’m more concerned about electing a guy who doesn’t know he has eight houses (and 13 cars) than about electing a guy who doesn’t know the immigration status of a distant relative.

  My father’s sister lives across the country from me. I have not seen or spoken to her in probably at least 10 years. I couldn’t even tell you where exactly she is living right now, what she is doing for work, if she smokes weed, collects Hummels, or what. And if she was living in government housing I sure wouldn’t know that either. As controversies go, this isn’t the most damning or exciting thing I’ve ever read. Whoo, a whopping $260!! She could ALMOST have made one of my car payments with that!!

  However based on the traffic-911 call it appears that John McCain’s brother is a thunderously large self-important asshole. Which, we can probably assume, McCain had some inkling of beforehand.

• it is HILARIOUS to see regular people admonish other regular people for NOT RESEARCHING while claiming that BARRACK, bent on running for the highest office, and his campaign manager, who is not new to selling candidates on the national political scene, did NOT RESEARCH and know about Obama’s extended family. Particularly knowing that they must sell not only a black man but a man with Indonesian and Kenyan ties for the first time in history. Yeah right.   I think everyone should put down the handfuls of mud and look to what each candidate stands for and what methodology of change each candidate is implementing. Regardless of political views, both candidates are impressive people. What I am hoping for is regardless of who wins, the other candidate should step up and work with the next president to fix things.

• speaking of RESEARCHING, according to wikipedia (not the most credible source yes, but suitable for what i’m about to say) a BARRACK may refer to military housing, a video game, or, in Australia, to cheer for one side of a competition. none of which are running for president.

  and just because someone comes from different descent does not mean they are any less intelligent or less capable of relating to the American people or running a nation. the only true “native” Americans were the Indians that were here before Europeans arrived. so unless you can prove that McCain is a descendant of a true “native” American, not that it’s any way relevant to his campaign or his views, your arguement “yes, and” is useless.

• Wendi, do you ever research anything? The public housing in question is state funded, and the housing agency is not allowed to ask what an applicant’s immigration status is. The article that you quoted states that there are more than 10 million such immigrants living in the United States. Did you read beyond the first paragraph? And how does this woman’s status as an illegal alien living in public housing make her an idiot?

  Obama’s campaign has millions of donars who have made small contributions. They can’t personally check out each donor to determine their legal status; if they did, the cost would cancel out the contribution. I doubt that the campaign had any inkling that this woman was a relative of Obama’s; after all, her last name is not Obama. Are you under the impression that Obama checks each contribution personally?

  I must say that your knowledge of national affairs and current events leads me to suspect that you are an idiot. Stick to gossip, where accuracy, intelligence, common sense and decency are not required.

  don’t get your pink panties up in a bunch over a typo. the typo doesn’t discredit the LARGER picture, nor does my comment attempt to argue in favor of one candidate over the other. THAT LAST PART OF YOUR POST IS U CREATING AN ARGUMENT I DID NOT MAKE AND ATTEMPTING TO ARGUE WITH YOURSELF. i understand that the lemming mentality of this long, very long, campaign is hard to break but stop before you jump off the bridge, k. the probability of a presidential candidate or a campaign manager to sit down and not ask important questions is HIGHLY unlikely. Time is invested in researching a candidates background so there aren’t any surprises, and if there are they will be prepared to answer for them IF they come up. I might not know about my cousin who lives in a shoe but a presidential candidate has the resources to invest, and get a general idea. ESPECIALLY, when he writes a couple of books detailing his life, and EVEN MORE IMPORTANTLY when he runs for office–as a black candidate with a mixed history. The politics of personal destruction that are older than BAMBI, not the Disney character but the candidate, require candidates and their handlers to look into avenues a regular person doesn’t even have to imagine–because they are trying to win, not loose their seat.

  but, my point was why should they have to “sell” a person of Kenyan and Indonesian descent? why should that matter in a presidential election? he was born in America, lived here for the past 14 years, is of age; he meets general requirements. why are we so focused on little meaningless things when we should be focused on their ideas and what they want to do while they are in office? i’m not sure that Obama’s aunt or McCain’s brother will have any great effect on the American society because they are not running for president.

  Everyone bashes McCain for being old, but I think Obama is the one going senile. How can a young man not know his aunt was illegal? How could he not know what his pastor’s views were after TWENTY years of attending his church?
