The family of prison lifers Erik and Lyle Menedez have held a press conference regarding the Los Angeles DA’s agreement to remain open on releasing the brothers after almost 30 years in prison for the murder of their parents.
The brothers killed their wealthy parents in 1989 after what they allege was years of physical and sexual abuse at the hands of both parents.
Now a coalition called “Justice for Eric and Lyle” are trying to free the two men, now in their 50’s, as time served. Many supporters are citing the release of Gypsy Rose (who murdered her month after a lifetime of Munchausen by proxy torture), as a case that bares many similarities with very different punishments.
You might think the release of the Ryan Murphy Netflix drama series, “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” was the catalyst for the coalition, but the work to free them has been non stop since they went in and they are just now down to their last appeal. So their attorneys are throwing everything at the wall to get something to stick and that’s caused the most of the movement in the case.
Now word what is going to be presented to the DA or when, but I hope it’s good. I agree they’ve served their time.
