Such drama between old friends! Adam McKay, director of films like Anchor Man, The Other Guys and Step Brothers, is talking about the reason he and Will Ferrell ended their long personal and professional relationship.
According to Adam, Will was very interested in the role of Jerry Buss (Lakers owner back in the 80’s) in an upcoming HBO project Adam is doing.
Adam, however, wanted John C. Reilly to play the part. So that’s who he hired. And Will apparently pouted and that ended it all.
Adam says he should have handled his decision better, as it was expected by many that Ferrell would land the role due to their close working relationship.
“I f***ed up on how I handled that,” he said in the interview. “The truth is, the way the show was always going to be done, it’s hyperrealistic,” he explained.
“And Ferrell just doesn’t look like Jerry Buss, and he’s not that vibe of a Jerry Buss. And there were some people involved who were like, “We love Ferrell, he’s a genius, but we can’t see him doing it.”‘
Sounds like Will should just grow up a little, IMO. But maybe Adam talking about it will get Will to rethink the silent treatment.
