When did you last think about Malcolm-Jamal Warner? You know, Theo Huxtable from the Cosby Show? Well get ready, because he’s back with a powerful project.
Among a sea of white savior films, Malcolm hopes to tell the story of Tunis Campbell. A black man who worked his ass off and raised to the rank of Senator and Vice President of the Republican Party of Georgia after the Civil War to help freed slaves transition to free men and women.
The film, full name Freedom’s Shore: Tunis Campbell and the Georgia Freedmen, has yet to get any more cast or a writer, but Malcolm acquired the film and television rights to Russell Duncan’s novel, so the project will move forward.
Duncan is a professor of history in the English Institute at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. In addition to Freedom’s Shore he is the author of First Person Past: American Autobiographies and Entrepreneur for Equality: Governor Rufus Bullock, Commerce, and Race in Post-Civil War Georgia.
