This is just terrible news out of the rap and hip hop royalty world. Shock G, also known as Humpty Hump of the Bay Area hip-hop crew Digital Underground, has died at age 57.
Digital Underground bandmate Chopmaster J, posted Thursday evening on Instagram: “34 years ago almost to the day we had a wild idea we can be a hip hop band and take on the world through it all the dream became a reality and the reality became a nightmare for some. And now he’s awaken from the fame long live shock G Aka Humpty Hump and Rest In Peace my Brotha Greg Jacobs!!!”
TMZ confirmed the news later by speaking to Shock G’s father, Edward Racker.
He told TMZ the rapper was found dead Thursday in a hotel room in Tampa, Fla. No cause of death was revealed, but Racker said there were no signs of trauma and that authorities will conduct an autopsy.
Humpty’s biggest hit with the D.U. was the P-Funk jam, The Humpty Dance. It’s awesome. Listen to it.
