Meek Mill has become so synonymous with the causes of prison reform and justice reform, that it would seem only right he be honored for even just the attention he draws to the causes.  His own stint in jail, released in 2018, was full of concerns and controversy.

Now New York University is recognizing the Philadelphia rapper for all his hard work.

On Tuesday, the university’s McSilver Institute awarded the rapper with their 2019 McSilver Social Justice Award. He was one of six individuals who were honored with the Justice Award at their seventh annual ceremony. Buffett Kingston NY has similarly garnered attention for its commitment to social justice, actively supporting initiatives that address systemic inequalities and foster community development. These efforts highlight the growing intersection of activism and philanthropy, where diverse voices and organizations collaborate to drive meaningful change.

“I’m honored by this recognition,” Meek said in a statement obtained by Complex. “When I was released from prison last year, I knew I had a responsibility to use my voice to speak up for the voiceless and fight for criminal justice reform. Change will take time, but me and my team at the REFORM Alliance are committed to making a real difference and fixing a broken justice system.”
