A gang of masked tough guys from ritzy Malibu are threatening to shoot looters on sight in their fire-ravaged neighborhood — despite the fact that cops say no such lawlessness is taking place.
Carey Hart, the husband of pop singer Pink, posted a picture on Instagram Wednesday of a dozen men, most of them in masks or with their mouths covered in bandannas, brandishing weapons in front of a sign reading: “Looters will be shot on site [sic]! PDC Posse.”
“PDC Posse” appears to stand for Point Dume Community — the glitzy oceanfront neighborhood where celebrities like Hart and Pink, Bob Dylan and Barbra Streisand live.
It’s unclear whether Hart is in the photo or took it from elsewhere.
“It’s unfortunate that some people take advantage of others in a crisis,” Hart wrote. “While the Malibu fires have been burning, some locals have been fighting off and defending their property against the fires.”
“There have been sightings of looters breaking in to homes,” the former motocross star wrote. “Well, if you are a looter, think twice if you are heading back into Malibu.”
Despite Hart’s claim, the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department say that there have been no reports of looting in evacuated areas in their jurisdiction.
Asked about people forming posses, the LACSD said they’ve heard about “a small group of individuals taking independent action in the Malibu area believing they can assist in protecting the community.”
