George Clooney didn’t forget the people who helped him become one of today’s biggest stars.
The famous actor reportedly gifted each of his closest guy friends $1 million each, according to his longtime friend Rande Gerber.
“There’s a group of guys we call ‘The Boys.’ George had called me and ‘The Boys’ and said, ‘Hey, mark September 27th, 2013, on your calendar. Everyone’s going to come to my house for dinner,” Gerber said on MSNBC’s “Headliners” show, according to Us Weekly.
When “The Boys” arrived for dinner that night — they found a black designer luggage bag set on the table at each guest’s spot, according to Gerber.
“George begins to say, ‘Listen, I want you guys to know how much you’ve meant to me and how much you mean in my life,” he recalled. “‘I came to L.A., I slept on your couch. I’m so fortunate in my life to have all of you and I couldn’t be where I am today without all of you. So, it was really important to me that while we’re still all here together, that I give back. SO I want you all to open your suitcases.’”
In each suitcase was a whopping $1 million each paid out in $20 bills, which Clooney even paid the taxes on.
“I know we’ve all been through some hard times, some of you are still going through it. You don’t have to worry about your kids, you don’t have to worry about, you know, school, you don’t have to worry about paying your mortgage,” Gerber remembered Clooney saying when realizing their amazement.
Gerber, a wealthy businessman who is a partner in Clooney’s Casamigos Tequila brand, explained that some of “The Boys” weren’t doing so well at the time, living paycheck to paycheck — one worked in a Texas bar and another was riding his bike to work.
