The opening bid will be $100,000! That’s the word from Nate D. Sanders Auctions on the sale of handwritten lyrics to the song, American Pie, written by Don Mclean.
In notes that will accompany the lyrics, McLean explains the meaning behind the 1971 hit. Known already by most, the song starts with his reaction to the news in 1959 that Buddy Holly had died in a plane crash with Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper on “the day the music died”.
Expected to rise as high as $1.5 million, the auction will be held in Santa Monica on January 26th.
