I have to admit that I’m not an expert on the James Bond franchise, nor do I consider myself a particularly major fan. I’ve enjoyed seeing a few of the newer films in theaters, but I can take them or leave them, really. Sean Connery was my fav Bond, and I’ve always thought Daniel Craig was not only not that great, but also too much of a prick to really enjoy it, so him leaving the franchise is no big loss. Apparently the powers that be disagreed, however, because they were willing to pay him £68 million (roughly $100 million US) to come back for two more Bond movies. Unsurprisingly, DCraig said no.
From The Evening Standard:
While Craig has been vocal about his reservations in making a follow-up to Spectre, bosses have reportedly been keen to entice him back after his smash-hit performance.
A source told Mail Online: “Daniel is done – pure and simple – he told top brass at MGM after Spectre. They threw huge amounts of money at him, but it just wasn’t what he wanted.
“He had told people after shooting that this would be his final outing, but the film company still felt he could come around after Spectre if he was offered a money deal.”
Last year Craig joked that he’d rather ‘slash his wrists’ than return as Bond for a fifth time, later admitting that he hadn’t finalised his plans.
The actor has also just signed up to appear in a new 20-episode television adaptation of Jonathan Franzen’s novel Purity.
First of all, LOL at the fact that he’s doing a series based on a Franzen novel (Franzen being another notorious asshole). Seems like a perfect fit. Second of all, it’s time to move on to a new Bond. Give me Idris Elba, please! Give me literally anybody but Daniel Craig, basically.
What do you guys think?
I never liked Daniel Craig either but off the top of my head I can’t think of anyone better
