Heya kiddos!
You may or may not have heard something about this “Presidential election” we’re having here in the good ol’ US of A pretty soon now — November 4, to be exact. It’s kind of a big deal.
Anyway, I’d just like to take this opportunity to issue a friendly reminder that leaving scathing comments on gossip blogs will not actually effect a change in national leadership. You have to vote.
And, in order to vote, you have to be registered to vote. Note that the deadline to register is WELL BEFORE the election in most states — in fact, the deadline is coming up in less than a month in many states. See the full list here to find out when the deadline is in your state.
In some states, you can register online to vote. For instance, I was able to use my Washington drivers license to register online to vote at this website. Do a quick Google check to see if your state offers something similar.
If not, MTV’s Rock the Vote has been kind enough to help you prepare your voter registration form here. Just answer their simple questions and follow the instructions to mail your registration form to your state. It only takes a few minutes!
Voting is important, yes, but first you have to be REGISTERED TO VOTE.
If you haven’t done it yet, GET REGISTERED!
You can bitch and moan and whine and type to your little hearts’ content, but none of it matters if you don’t actually get your ass to the polls on November 4.
first!
haha too bad people only do that on perez, but i’m breaking the tradition.
I’m registered but I don’t think I’m voting, I hate both candidates. Also I live in new jersey, and it doesn’t matter who you vote for in new jersey. It’s democratic and will always be so. Not being in a swing state rocks
can me and Tiny register from Prison?
Good for you EvilB – as many people should register as possible! Mostly because there are 2 conservatives for every 1 liberal. Ever notice how the Euro-trash favorite always seems to lose? Gore….Kerry….Obama! I can’t wait.
…and remember if your are black there is no need for your to register because Republicans will make sure your vote is never counted. Why waste your time with a fake democracy?
i love donkey punch. period.
Donkey – your ignorance is impressive, you must work very hard at it. Saying Republicans don’t count black votes is simply a lie, and not a very convincing one. Did you have a district or state in mind or are you just making things up?
Do you prefer to go by Donkey or just ass? May I suggest dumb-ass?
GET REGISTERED AND FUCKING VOTE FOR OBAMA
Monkey Lunch, what a sad, bitter, paranoid little man you seem to be. Maybe you would feel like you fit in better if you post on the daily kos. Or maybe try one of the conspiracy theory sites. It seems like it would be more your style.
Almost chosen and Snowdevil…. consider this.

It is a long article but should be required reading. You may not agree with the conclusions but it is a pretty good education in what a presidential election REALLY is – a lot of small/local elections where lot of things can go wrong (intentional or not, by either side).
Thanks for this, Beet. It’s reminded me to get my husband to finally register to vote from abroad. He didn’t get around to it last time, and look what happened!
skarrie – Those conspiracy theories are only going to hurt YOU — leave them alone & face reality. There are irregularities and mistakes made in every election; only the rabidly paranoid see this as evidence that someone cheated. Far too many Dem voters are in denial and hurting their party with ludicrous conspiracy theories of election fraud. Get a life.
AlmostChosen, you’re a complete fucking asshole. You’re the only trash here.
Regards from Europe.
Actually, Donkey Punch is sort of right. There was just an article in the Michigan Messenger about how the GOP is sending “election challengers” to the polls with a list of people whose homes have been foreclosed upon to challenge those voters as not living in the county. The majority of those people are African American.
It’s pretty dispicable considering that the current GOP administration has helped and not prevented a huge housing crisis. And now, not only does the GOP not offer any solutions to people who have lost their homes, but they are challenging their right to vote!
This is also happening in Ohio, by the way. And it’s specifically the GOP doing the challenging.
The GOP has ruined politics with their dirty dealings. They have ruined the country as a result. Please register and vote them away. It is for your own good.
Oooh, is the election that soon? I may not live anywhere even CLOSE to the US, but I’m still interested to see who gets the position, although I don’t really understand the ins and outs of US politics. Or any politics, actually.
That’s not for want of trying, though!
