I don’t think I’ve ever really felt compelled to highlight Ariana Grande in any real way, but this is too good to ignore. During an interview with California’s Power 106 radio station to discuss her new single, “Focus”. While there, she got some bullshit questions from the two DJs about “girly” things, forcing her to set them straight on multiple occasions.
The first issue arose when one of the DJs asked Ariana what she would choose if she had to give up makeup or her phone. Here’s how that exchange went down:
Grande: Is this men assuming that that’s what girls would have to choose between?
DJ 1: Yes. Not a question.
DJ 2: Can you really go anywhere without your cell phone?
Grande: Yes.
DJ 2: How long can you go without looking at Twitter?
Grande: Many hours. Many hours. Absolutely.
DJ 2: I don’t believe it.
Grande: When I’m at a dinner table, I like to be present—with eye contact—and talking.
DJ Honestly Who Cares: Listen and learn, ladies!
Grande: Boys, learn! Come on. Boys and girls. We can all learn.
Later in the conversation, they got talking about the new iPhone emojis, and Ariana expressed her enjoyment of the unicorn, which is, of course, a total girl thing.
Grande: The unicorn is great, obviously.
DJ Whoever: Girls.
Grande: Boys. Many boys use the unicorn.
DJ Whoever: Well, [he changes his tone] “boyeees.”
Grande: You need a little brushing up on equality over here…Who says a unicorn emoji isn’t for men? Come on.
DJ Whoever: Is it? I’ve never used the unicorn emoji.
DJ Honestly Who Cares: I say no.
Grande: All right, I’ve changed my mind. I don’t wanna hang out at Power 106 anymore.
Ugh, these people are the worst. Finally, Ariana got a serious question about what she’d like to change in the world, and she had a great answer for that, too.
“I have a long list of things I’d like to change…I think, judgement in general. Intolerance, meanness, double standards, misogyny, racism, sexism. You know, all that shit. There’s lots we’ve got to get started on. That’s what we need to focus on. We’ve got work to do.”
Then she gestures to one of the hosts and says, “We’ll start with you, though.” YASSSSSS.
i agree with her comments, but she’s really not helping herself by wearing Minnie Mouse ears made of hair extensions.
So? We should disregard her because of the way she looks and/or dresses?
yes, that’s exactly what i said. we should disregard her. all i said was she’s not doing herself any favors. maybe i’m just voicing my opinion on her hairstyle. you don’t have to be snippy, stripy.
Equality, unless we are talking about overweight people, according to her.
