I know this is going to sound pretty terrible, but I’m surprised that Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt lasted as long as they did. I always felt they were a rather mismatched couple in a lot of ways, and while opposites attract and all that, but sometimes people just seem like they’re from different planets entirely, and that was definitely the case with them. It seems Jon & Jen finally agree, because they’ve decided to end their relationship after 18 years together.
“With great sadness, we have decided to separate, after 18 years of love and shared history,” the couple told Page Six in a joint statement. “We will continue to be supportive of each other in every way possible moving forward.”
Rumours have been circulating for a while now (years, really, on and off) that they were having issues with the relationship. One of the most common stories was that Jon didn’t want kids and Jen did and that put a lot of strain on them. And hey, that’s definitely a dealbreaker. If you don’t want kids, you don’t want kids. Also, marriage isn’t everything and you certainly don’t need a piece of paper to make your commitment real, but I do wonder the reasoning behind their decision not to ever tie the knot despite being together for nearly two decades. I suppose because they always thought this day might come?
Anyway, Jon Hamm’s single now, if anyone’s interested. Same with Jennifer, obviously.
