You guys, I’m feeling really torn right now. I sort of got really attached to the idea of Idris Elba as the new James Bond, but now Hugh Jackman is saying he wants to do it, too, and I think he could pull it off equally well so now I don’t know what to think or how to feel! You see, Hugh was already in the running for the role years ago, but he was busy being Wolverine or whatever, so he had to pass. Now, however, his schedule’s a bit less hectic and if the producers came calling, he’d “seriously consider” taking on the iconic 007 role.
From Entertainment Weekly:
The actor recently appeared on The Project, an Australian news program, and the anchors asked whether he would be up for taking on the role of James Bond. “I’d seriously consider it,” he responded.
As it turns out, though, Jackman already considered playing 007 back when he was filming X2. According to the actor, the Bond camp approached him at that time, but he ultimately passed on the opportunity. “I was like, ‘Ah, I don’t think it’s the right time.’ But it was not an easy one to give up.”
I can’t say I’d be mad if he was cast, though I’d hope it wasn’t that he got the role because of the backlash over a potential black Bond, because Idris would KILL that role.
Where’s the “Hugh Jackman isn’t British so he can’t play Bond” camp, like they did with Idris Elba? :(
…Idris Elba IS British.
