One Direction lost Zayn Malik a few months back, but it looks like Zayn’s decision came at a pretty good time, since the boys have decided to “take a break” for a while starting in 2016, anyway. While they claim that they just want a year or so to pursue individual projects, I think this probably spells the end of the road for them, which is fair enough. They had a good five year run and they’ve made millions of dollars – plenty enough to keep them going probably for the rest of their lives – so I see why they’re ready to be done with it. They can come back in a decade for a reunion tour and make some extra $$$.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “The guys have been together for five years, which is an incredible run for any boyband.
“They fully deserve to have at least a year to work on their own projects. There is absolutely no bad blood between them and they are all 100 per cent behind the decision.”
One Direction’s last show will be on October 31 in Sheffield. The boys promise, however, that they’ll be back before you know it. Here are some tweets from Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson:
Ok so Lots of rumours going round. We are not splitting up, but we will be taking a well earned break at some point next year

Harry Styles is probably the only one in the group that will really be able to make a go of a solo career. He’s not really much of a great singer, but he’s seen as the “lead”, for some reason, and will sell plenty of shitty singles. Niall is more of a writer, Liam is the grown up dad of the group (so god knows what he’ll do), and Louis is about to be a father, so there’s that.
What do you think? Is this a temporary break, or is One Direction about to be taking their last breaths as a group?
