Bruce Jenner has been planning a lengthy sit-down interview with Diane Sawyer for ABC for several months, though it was unknown when said interview would air – until now, that is. ABC revealed yesterday that a two hour special aptly titled Bruce Jenner – The Interview will air Friday, April 24th at 9pm.
The interview was apparently filmed a couple of months ago, right around the time his intention to transition became public (though “became public” seems like a stretch since Bruce has never confirmed this, even to this day), so it should be interesting to see what’s discussed.
“Bruce’s primary goal is to bring awareness to this issue in order to help others [in the transgender community],” a source told PEOPLE. “He is not sure that E! and a reality show is the best format to do that.”
Jenner “wants this to be taken seriously so that [his situation] can have the most positive impact on society’s perception of the transgender community,” said the source.
Incidentally, the entire Kardashian clan is due to be out of the country in Armenia when this interview airs. April 24th is also apparently the anniversary of the Armenian genocide, but the Kardashians have claimed their trip to Armenia on that date has nothing to do with that, so… yeah.
To air this “huge” story on a Friday night at 9pm says something. Either
1) ABC doesn’t consider it huge and doesn’t expect big ratings for it or
2) It turned out to be totally worthless and not worth whatever ABC paid him for it.
