Katy Perry is currently in the middle of the UK leg of her Prismatic World Tour (she was bomb live! Would definitely see her again), and like all artists, she has a rider of items she requires in her dressing room before every performance. There have been some crazy ass diva requests out there, but I think Katy’s pale in comparison and seem not all that unreasonable, actually.
From The Daily Star (via the Evening Standard):
According to an insider, Katy knows exactly what she wants and needs while on tour, including a staff member to cut and wash her fruit and veg.
Other demands on her rider include a fresh supply of grapes, broccoli, apples, pineapple, dried figs and other fruits and vegetables.
The ‘Firework’ singer also requests three chilled bottles of Pinot Grigio white wine and a selection of tortilla chips at every show.
To decorate her dressing room, the star also needs a personalised director-style chair, custom-made French lamps and a cream rug, to make her feel at home.
An insider told the Daily Star: “It’s crazy. Katy always seems so down-to-earth when you see her on TV so we didn’t expect her to have so many diva demands. We’ve also been told that staff mustn’t speak to her, especially to ask for a photo or an autograph, because it angers her before the show.”
LOL, okay… wow, she wants some fruit, chips and some wine? HOW DARE SHE! What a diva! And so she likes her creature comforts to make her feel relaxed since she spends hours in that room before going on stage? WHAT A BITCH!
Frankly, if I was an artist, my list would be way longer than that. It would include lots of chocolate, some chips, an ice cream sundae station, pizza… okay, I should stop now, probably.
Yeah, I definitely didn’t think any of those demands were particularly outrageous. She always seems really accessible too, so not sure if I buy the don’t make contact with her part of it either.
Seriously, this is one of the most mild rider’s I’ve ever read about. She wants clean fruits and veggies? What a demanding bitch! I feel like this is crap a lot of people have sitting in their kitchen. Though, maybe they only have 2 bottles of wine, because that matters…
The food requests are totally fine. I think the custom made French lamps are ridiculous. You want a shmancy lamp? Throw one on the bus. But it’s not nearly the most ridiculous rider list I’ve ever seen.
What bothers me the most is “We’ve also been told that staff mustn’t speak to her, especially to ask for a photo or an autograph, because it angers her before the show”, like, obviously? She’s about to perform and needs concentration, and having people asking for your photo and autograph all the time is irritating. I live in China and as a white person I have my photo taken all the fucking time, even when I’m buying food, and it’s so fucking annoying. The other day I was at an ATM and I turned out to see three people pointing their phones at me. It’s horrid.
I’ve toured extensively, and I think people who put rugs, certain kinds of lamps on a rider need a good old punch. My rider consisted of beer, weed, candy, chips, and a damn towel.
