It was only a matter of time, I suppose, before the Knowles/Carter clan were forced to speak up on the much-spoken about incident that took place in the elevator at the Standard Hotel after the Met Gala earlier this month. Jokes were made, memes were created and seemingly everyone and their grandmother had a theory on why Solange tried to beat the shit out of Jay-Z and why Beyoncé didn’t seem to care all that much either way.
Well, here’s what they told the Associated Press on Thursday:
“As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5th, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident. But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it. Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred.
They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family.
The reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behavior throughout that evening are simply false. At the end of the day, families have problems and we’re no different. We love each other and above all we are family. We’ve put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same.”
LOL, of course you hope everyone else will do the same. Not exactly happy about having a tarnish on that perfect reputation, are we, Beyoncé? You can tell she couldn’t even be bothered with this statement.
I do think some people online have made some great points about how, were the tables turned and it was Jay attacking Solange, there would have been a lot less laughter and a whole lot more criticism, and rightfully so. Just because Solange is a woman doesn’t make her physical violence okay, but there have long been reports about her being a little… shall we say unruly. I’m a Solange fan, musically speaking, but this whole thing needs to calm down now, and homegirl needs to get some anger management.
Solange seems like a psychotic little bitch that’s sick of being compared to her sister. She is never polite with the media and just comes across as someone who likes to ride the coat tails of her sisters stardom only because she’s starved for her own.
I don’t blame Beyoncé for not getting involved, but the minute she put her hands on her husband, she should have stepped in. Because as you pointed out, if Jay would have hit Solange, it would have been a totally different reaction.
