Lorde may not be your typical fashion magazine cover star, but she does look pretty glam on the May cover of Teen Vogue. In the issue, she talks about how she’s feminine, sure, but she’s also a giant tomboy and loves wearing boy clothes.
When it comes to her usual appearance, Lorde is the first to admit that her style is on the plainer side. Although she understands there are “expectations in [the] industry about looking a certain way,” Lorde tells the mag she prefers her tomboy look.
“I am feminine,” she tells the mag, “but I really love dressing in boys’ clothes too. I guess that’s why I get labeled as ‘the grumpy girl,’ because I don’t play into that.”
Nice. Personally, I think the whole idea of “boys clothes” and all of that has gone down the drain in recent years because the tomboy look IS actually the height of fashion and has been feminized and all of that, but I guess I’m picking up what she’s putting down.
I know I’ve said before that I find Lorde occasionally obnoxious, but the more I think about it, I do really appreciate the alternative she provides for the teen girls that look up to her. She’s pretty great, in that sense.
She’s all ironic and s**t.
Seriously, she’s o.k. I am a bit worried that she needs to change up her musical style next go ’round or it will truly all sound exactly the same, nice as that has been so far…
