Ellen Page did it, you guys: she came out. And to a roomful of people while giving a very stirring speech. She spoke at the Human Rights Campaign “Time To Thrive” conference for LGBTQ youth.
Here’s what she said:
I am here today because I am gay. (Applause, standing ovation.) And because maybe I can make a difference. To help others have a easier and more hopeful time. Regardless for me I feel a personal obligation and a social responsibility. I also do it selfishly, because I’m tired of hiding, and I’m tired of lying by omission. (Applause.)
I recommend watching the entire thing, it’s pretty good.
Wooooow, good on her!! I am so happy for her. Awesome.
Great speech!!! I cried like a baby!!!
How I long to see the day when it won’t matter if you’re gay and all parents can pride in their children’s discovery of their own sexual orientation and identity. There is nothing wrong with using a label to describe someone, and nothing right with abusing a label to denounce another. Abuse results from an educational deficiency. Stop Abuse: Educate; Don’t Indoctrinate.
