Moulin Rouge did relatively well at the box office despite being so boring, I fell asleep watching it. Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor did some nice little singing, there were classic Baz Luhrmann colours, it was all fine and well but nothing special.
Well, Leonardo DiCaprio wants you to know that he was almost the star of that movie, but he missed out on the role because he can’t sing a lick.
From Variety:
At this point in his career, it’s hard to believe there is any role DiCaprio couldn’t get, but he reveals this isn’t true. Years earlier, he met with Luhrmann about the role in “Moulin Rogue!” that eventually went to Ewan McGregor.
“To be honest, I’m not really prepared to do a musical, simply because I think I have a pretty atrocious voice,” he notes. “But we had a friendly thing where it was me and him and a piano player, and we tried to sing a song together. It didn’t go too well. I think it was ‘Lean on Me,’ and when I hit the high note, he just turned to me.” At this point, DiCaprio affects Luhrmann’s Australian accent, “?‘Yes, D, I don’t know if this conversation should continue.’?”
To be honest, I doubt anyone is looking to see Leonardo Dicaprio sing and dance, so no big loss there. Also, it’s probably a good thing that he didn’t do that – I don’t think it did any favours for either Nicole or Ewan.
Did any of you like Moulin Rouge? Would you want to see Leo in a musical?

Actually that movie was really well revived and nominated for several awards including two Academy Awards. It was a really big deal when it came out.
Recieved* stupid phone
Actually I just looked it up. Eight. Eight Oscar noms including best actress for Nicole Kidman. Did some great things for everyone involved I’d say.
