Lily Allen is back in the music game, having released a lovely Christmas cover for John Lewis and her own new single, ‘Hard Out Here’. This, of course, means a full-length album must be following sometime soon, but Lily wants you to know that her lyrics will be as frank as ever and she has no plans of sitting around talking about the same bullshit the rest of these stars do.
From Q Magazine:
“It’s no use just singing about being famous, or rhyming ‘crazy’ with ‘baby’ a million times over,” she explains. “I still want to write about things that are relevant to other people.
“And I like to be frank, whether it’s about sex or politics or feminism… but if people want to call it controversial, then, well, that’s their thing.”
Fair enough. I enjoy Lily Allen quite a lot and I can’t wait to see what her new album is like, to be honest. I really loved her other two, and I think she’ll have matured just slightly but still have that cheeky side to her. It’s gonna be good. Of course, it’s still pop music, and I think you can’t really make it more than what it is. It’s great that she wants to talk about shit we all relate to, but I’m sure some 14-year-old in Kentucky really feels every bit of Britney Spears‘ ‘Piece of Me’ like it was written with her in mind, so it’s all relative, I suppose.
