So, Zac Efron turned up at an LA Lakers game earlier this month sporting a blue chip around his wrist. What does that mean? you may ask. Well, I’ll tell you – it’s a sobriety chip from Alcoholics Anonymous, and it indicates that he’s been off the booze for six months. I don’t know anything about AA or how they verify these things, but I find it slightly hard to believe. Well, maybe not – after all, AA doesn’t cover narcotics, and narcotics were definitely behind the Great Jaw Breaking of 2013.
In all seriousness, hopefully he’s getting his life back on track. He’s got a new movie, That Awkward Moment, coming out at the end of next month, and while it looks incredibly bad, I’m sure there’s a market for it and hopefully it does a little to get him back into the swing of working and not into the swing of getting fucked up all the time.
What do you think?
Actually, there are dual diagnosis AA meetings for people who are alcoholics and drug addicts, which means he could be both. Also, I know a lot of drug addicts who just go to AA because there are no Narc Anon meetings in their area, or they just don’t like Narc Anon and prefer Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.
There is no sobriety length verification in AA – in the beginning of every meeting, they mention the necessity of being rigorously honest in your recovery program if you want to achieve long lasting sobriety. So yes, you can lie in meetings, keep using your drug of choice all the while attending meetings and taking chips, but in the end, you are cheating yourself out of true sobriety.
I don’t see how him breaking his jaw is definitely due to drugs. I mean, obviously it’s possible, but it’s also possible to break your jaw while not on drugs. The whole “slipped on a puddle” story seems kinda of ridiculous, but I would think if they were making a cover up story they could of done way better than that. That makes me think that that is probably what happened. Idk
This seems a bit to obvious. Do ppl really wear these things on the outside of their clothes to tell the world they are in the program and 6 months sober? What happened to second A standing for Anonymous?
