Oh snap! My girl Katy Perry is about to do some of the most important work of her life, let alone her career, as she’s been appointed UNICEF’s new Goodwill Ambassador. What will she do in that role, you ask? Well, she’ll work with vulnerable young people to help them in finding and securing a brighter future for themselves, of course.
Here’s what Katy had to say about the honour:
“I believe young people have the power to change their own lives, with our help.
“I am honored to join UNICEF as a Goodwill Ambassador, and committed to doing everything I can to help children and adolescents who come from such different backgrounds but want the same thing: a brighter future.”
And a statement from UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Luke:
“Katy Perry is already a champion for children, and we look forward to hearing her ‘roar’ on behalf of UNICEF.
“We are delighted that she is joining us as UNICEF’s newest Goodwill Ambassador and lending her remarkable voice to amplify the voices of children and young people around the world.”
You might remember that Katy visited Madagascar earlier this year as part of a UNICEF mission, so she’s no stranger to this work. Good for her – if there’s any useful way to use your celebrity status, giving back like this is definitely one of them.
UNICEF is evil though.
