Amanda Bynes‘ downward spiral is still so surprising to me. I’m glad she’s finally getting help. Unfortunately she’s nowhere near ready to being a fully-functioning adult. Her lawyer is saying that she doesn’t have the “mental capacity” to stand trial on her DUI case (Bynes was arrested for driving under the influence in 2012). From TMZ:
Amanda was supposed to appear in court today for her DUI arrest in West Hollywood back in April, 2012. Amanda’s lawyer, Rich Hutton, told the judge Amanda did not have the mental capacity to understand the nature of the legal proceedings.
The judge apparently had concern … and transferred the matter to the mental health court. The judge in that court will conduct a hearing to determine Amanda’s mental competency.
Honestly, it’s not surprising. She’s proven over the past year, if not more, that she’s not mentally well. Interesting though that in May her same lawyer said she was “totally fine.” In all fairness, a lot has happened since May that could have changed his mind. Like when Bynes set an old woman’s driveway on fire.
