Eileen Brennan, a brilliant comedic actress died today. Have you seen Clue? If not, you need to see it right now. Yes, it’s based on the board game which sounds terrible, but it isn’t. Brennan played Mrs. Peacock, and she was effing hilarious. She joined Christopher Lloyd as Professor Plum, Madeline Kahn as Mrs. White, Michael McKean as Mr. Green, and Tim Curry as…well, I don’t want to spoil it. (Clue has 3 different endings. They would show a different one for each screening. On the DVD you can watch them all.)
She was also nominated for an Oscar for her performance in Private Benjamin, starring Goldie Hawn. She died of bladder cancer. Her family released a statement. From CNN:
Our family is so grateful for the outpouring of love and respect for Eileen. She was funny and caring and truly one of a kind. Her strength and love will never be forgotten. She will be greatly missed by all of us.
She had many other roles in her long career, but my heart will always have a place for Mrs. Peacock.
Other Clue fans, time to have a quoting party in the comments. Come on out wherever you are.
No! Mrs. Peacock is the best. I grew up watching Clue and I just love it! Especially Mrs. Peacock. *sniff*
