More stories of Paula Deen‘s racism and alleged mistreatment of employees keep coming out of the woodwork, as they say. They keep getting worse. The latest is that a former chef of Deen’s is claiming that Deen asked her to dress as Aunt Jemima. Oh lord. Here’s what Chef Dora Charles told the NY Times (via The Daily News):
Another employee of former Food Network star Paula Deen has come forward with allegations of the chef using racial slurs in the workplace. [Charles] claims that the 66-year-old culinary queen even wanted Charles to dress up in “an old-style Aunt Jemima outfit” for dinner service […] and that Deen requested that she ring a dinner bell in front of the restaurant, yelling for diners to come in.
“I said ‘I’m not ringing no bell,'” Charles said to the paper. “That’s a symbol to me of what we used to do back in the day.”
Deen’s rep is saying this isn’t true and that Charles is just after money. Considering she liked the idea of a plantation themed restaurant with waiters playing the roles of slaves, this story doesn’t sound too far off. It’s best to report cases like this ASAP because employment discrimination deadlines are tight.
Let’s see if Dancing with the Stars is still interested. I wonder how much they’ll take.
I’d take any story of people jumping on the yeah she was racist to me too wagon with a grain of salt. She has obviously done and said racist things but people love attention and want to be involved in scandals.
“I’m not ringing no bell.”
*sigh*
Poor, Paula…. Libtards and Marxists doing anything, making a mountain out of a molehill to bring her down….
