Jay Baruchel proposed to longtime girlfriend Alison Pill back in 2011, and it seemed like nothing could stop their love (or something). However, that couldn’t be more wrong, as the wedding has since been called off – apparently her doing, if Jay’s Twitter page is anything to go by:
“Alone again, naturally. Heartbroken. I won’t be on twitter for awhile gang. Getting dumped rules.
Oh, okay. There’s nothing better than someone feeling the need to spill the ups and downs of their relationship on social networking sites. It’s my favourite! Please add in a cryptic Facebook status that includes lyrics to a really depressing song! That’ll complete the picture.
As for why they split, a source told US Weekly:
“Working and living in Canada is something that [Baruchel] is very passionate about. He wanted her up there more often, but she really likes Newsroom and the opportunities that are there for her,” the insider explains. “They were doing the long distance [thing] a lot.”
Long distance is ass, obviously, but if you want it and it’s right, it can definitely work. Maybe that’s not how they do shit in Canada. Ah, well.
Yeah but long distance works when you have a goal you are both striving for together, which ultimately should be shortening that distance, even if that goal is years away. If you want to be in Canada and I want to be in the US and none of us are giving in, it’s impossible. I’ve been there.
