Oh man. Did you know? Stevie Nicks is sticking up for Kristen Stewart’s former philandering ways months after all this business has gone down. Just in time! From Us Weekly:
Twi-hard Nicks, who has struck up a friendship with the duo over the last few years (she even wrote a Twilight-inspired tune for In Your Dreams), said she thinks people need to give Stewart — who cheated on Pattinson in July with her married Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders — a break.
“I was her age once, and exactly what happened to her happened to me two or three times, and whoever it was that I was with forgave me all two or three times,”,” the rock icon, 64, explained.
“The fact is that when you’re young and you’ve been in a relationship for a long time and something comes along that is a little bit overwhelming and magical, and you’re kind of in another situation with someone else . . . Things happen.”
Added Nicks of the criticism that’s been lobbed Stewart’s way, “I really always want to say to people, ‘People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.’ It’s not anything the rest of us haven’t done.”
If Pattinson is willing to forgive her, everyone should let them be together in peace, according to Nicks. Says the star, “If what they have is that special they can overcome it, then good for [them].”
So OK. That’s all well and good, but the whole “it’s not anything the rest of us haven’t done”? I know that Stevie survived the sixties … and the seventies … and the cocaine-crusted eighties, but assuming that everyone’s gone out and cheated on their significant other in some fashion? Well. It’s a little presumptuous, that’s all I’m saying.
I think the point wasn’t everyone cheats, but that a lot of people cheat its not this rare thing. Its also no one elses business but the people involved, so if pattinson forgives her then cool good luck to them, its no one elses place to judge that relationship.
Well last time this was up for debate I linked an article that was quite detailed on the many times Robert cheated on his ‘girlfriend’ – still not any less true than the Kristin cheating story.
It’s ridiculous for her to say that we can’t object or dislike someone based on something they’ve done or not done.
It’s the equivalent of saying she doesn’t have the right to forgive cheaters because there are so many people in the world who don’t cheat and stay true to their spouses. I’ve never cheated and never will, and I can’t relate to people who do, and I don’t have to put a stamp of approval on their behavior. But I also don’t get a rise out of judging them… it’s their life… they make their own decisions, and I have mine and live by a different set of ethics.
Her condoning Kristen’s behavior is really a way for Stevie to condone and excuse her own.
