Have you heard? Those pesky ‘Star Wars’ installments that were supposedly never going to happen? Well. BY GUM THEY ARE. From the mouth of Disney CEO Robert A. Iger:
“Lucasfilm reflects the extraordinary passion, vision, and storytelling of its founder, George Lucas. This transaction combines a world-class portfolio of content including Star Wars, one of the greatest family entertainment franchises of all time, with Disney’s unique and unparalleled creativity across multiple platforms, businesses, and markets to generate sustained growth and drive significant long-term value.”
And from the man, the master, himself, George Lucas:
“For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next. It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers.”
So! Who should direct these films? Joss Whedon would be my first pick naturally, but since he’s gone and endorsed Mitt Romney … well, I just don’t know that I can do that now.
Oh, and by the way? The whole deal went down for a little over FOUR BILLION DOLLARS. Not a bad penny, huh?
George only directed A New Hope so it doesn’t matter who directs them. Joss was kidding.
George directed all three of the new Star Wars films. He’s a decent story writer (was?) but a pretty terrible director.
Oh god! Disney and creativity in the same sentence. That’s hard. So while now George Lucas will hopefully stop to rape the Star Wars franchise over and over again, I’m afraid that Disney will be any better. Well, with angry birds star wars, star wars kinect and clone wars out there, it will be very hard for them to go any lower…
i don’t really like this.
!!!
I love this.
George is a talentless hack <3
It will be fascinating to see were the series goes from here. VII, VIII, IX will have to deliver if they are going to make up for what some people considered a letdown with I, II, III. Disney has done well with movies like Pirates of the Caribbean and National Treasure, but you donâ??t see much in the way of science fiction.
Well if Disney sticks with the style they used when they made their classic animations then we’ll end up seeing C3Po and R2D2 drinking AND smoking!!!
Star Wars Episode’s VII, VIII, and VIIII. will be done by Disney.
Hmmmm…..there is a great disturbance in the force!
disney better have the same kinds of killing. it better not be an animated movie or that would screw up the whole franchise.
