Because I did. Today. While I was having my morning coffee and going through massive piles of email, and I couldn’t look away. See, now, I wasn’t a big Backstreet Boys fan back in the nineties (I was more a Hanson girl, through and through, actually), but BSB was a large part of my adolescence in other veins (school dances, a best friend’s little sister’s obsession with f-cking Howie Dorough, of all people) and I was able to appreciate this performance … well, as much as anyone who had a fleeting experience with the Backstreet Boys.
That being said, do I necessarily think it was time to break out the memories of BSB fandemonium and nostalgia? Well, not necessarily. If this was the Backstreet Boys’ attempt at reuniting, I have to say it was kitschy—and mediocre, at best. What, do they think that their former fans want a reunion tour now? Because Nick Carter is still Nick Carter (who dated Paris Hilton) … and that’s not a good thing, to say the least. Or something that can be easily forgotten about, either.
Thoughts on the Backstreet Boys’ Old Navy commercial? Is this it?
Actually it is not a reunion at all. Yes Kevin left the group in 2006 but the other 4 recorded 2 other albums in 2007 and 2009 both debuting in the top 10 on the billboard 200 chart. They also toured for each of these albums. They also released a compilation album with NKOTB in 2011 featuring old songs and 2 new songs. They toured the U.S, Europe, Australia and South America with NKOTB to packed arenas. For the record that album also debuted in the top 10 on the billboard 200 charts. So BSB fandemonium has been going on for nearly 20 years now and just because you didn’t know about it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. So yes the fans that have been fans this whole time do want a tour but it can’t be called a reunion tour. Let’s call it a Kevin has decided to return to the group tour. Or maybe Kevin has decided to return to the Backstreet Boys after 6 years where they have been steadily releasing albums and touring not to mention all the solo stuff they have been doing and those of us who have been fans this whole time are thrilled tour! Also who cares about what former fans (who weren’t even really fans) do or don’t want? Oh and for the record all Old Navy commercials are kitschy and pretty cheesy!
Absolutely agree with the above comment. They’ve been going non stop since 2004, they never went anywhere so it’s not even a reunion.
