Did you know that guns are a big element of Madonna‘s current tour? If you look through photos or watch videos of her concerts, you can see her wave around her little prop pistols and machine guns. She’s that edgy.
Up until recently, we’ve all just sort of collectively rolled our eyes at Madonna and her silly stunts, but that changed this weekend. She did a show in Scotland over the weekend, and in light of the Denver shootings, officials requested that she leave the guns out of the show. Guess what she said:
Madonna has been criticised after brandishing a hand weapon and machine gun on stage in Edinburgh, just two days after the 12 people were shot dead in a cinema in Denver.
The US singer defied a warning from Lothian and Borders Police not to use the controversial props during her first-ever performance in Scotland.
Critics said the move was particularly insensitive in light of Friday morning’s massacre, the worst US mass shooting since 2009.
“Madonna has obviously developed this as part of her routine, but I think common sense should have been applied this weekend. Given the recent events in Denver and the fact that she was in Scotland – where the Dunblane massacre occurred – better judgement should have been used,” said Shabnum Mustapha, director of Amnesty International Scotland.
You know, I wouldn’t automatically call Madonna as asshole if she’d left the guns in her show. I think it’s an overdone concept, and a poor one to begin with, but if I had seen photos of her doing her thing this weekend in Scotland, I wouldn’t have thought anything of it, and I definitely wouldn’t have made any sort of connection between her shitty show and the recent shootings. But the fact that police asked her not to use the guns and she used them anyway? That makes her an asshole. That makes her a disrespectful, arrogant, douchey asshole. Ugh.
And is it just me, or has Madonna become so much more of an insufferable jerk this year?

Every frickin time. Without fail. Every time some retard(s) decides to kill a bunch of people because they can’t learn even the simplest of social skills to get a girl to fuck them EVERYONE gets so sensitive to anything that relates to the tragedy. They ask artists (and believe me, I am using that word very loosely), performers, etc. to self censor portions of their demonstration out of what they say is “respect” for the victims and their families. BULL. I am sorry, but I have never just heard someone tell it like it is – they are in no way trying to respect the victims, they are lying and just trying to remove reminders of said event for their own selfish reasons. It is the head in the sand strategy – something bad happens, avoid any reminders of it so we can all avoid the guilt for the part WE ALL play in these people resorting to what they did. Then, when enough time has passed, it is ok to be “insensitive” again. That is – until it happens again. I mean seriously – the world is one collective toddler trying to avoid getting in trouble with mommy and daddy for something they feel really guilty about. Think about it – just say that if instead of everyone trying to cover their eyes from anything that reminds them of a recent crime against society they actually put MORE reminders out there, MAYBE we’d get some real reform as far as more fine tuned laws, better gun regulation (not saying banishment of guns, but just common sense rules that would prevent the sale and/or EXISTENCE of say ammo clips with nearly TEN TIMES the capacity of stock ones – “yup, needed to unload 300 rounds to finally take down that rabbit” – give me a fucking break), better programs for parents, teachers, etc. that actually work and help identify and provide care for individuals AND THEIR FAMILIES (let’s face it, the problem is, in my opinion, 90% parenting) who show even the earliest signs of sociopathic/apathetic behavior. So much would be better if we would just get off this PC bullcrap (because IT”S A LIE) and just CONFRONT the issue head on – then maybe, just maybe, we won’t have ANOTHER, and ANOTHER, and ANOTHER incident where the news stations and sites borderline GLORIFY these poor people – and yes, I said poor people and meant the perps – and I said it because we all enter the world the same way – every killer was once a newborn, full of infinite potential for good OR evil – it just so happens that in their cases, those around them buried their heads one too many times…
oh, one more thing.. MDNA was once a very smart, calculating, “artist” who had a knack for creating tunes that just happened to ring with just about everyone. Never had a great voice, not the greatest musician, but – it didn’t matter, she was just smart… BUT NOW? .. hhmm.. how do I “put this nicely” (in gay, high pitched voice i sing “IRONY”), now I believe what inspired the choices and product she used to create is not in her life anymore… There is no “suffering” in her voice (and life I am sure) anymore… the best art comes from life experience, and the best artists are the ones that can paint a picture that conveys said experiences in a manner that we all can relate to. She just seems to be manufacturing empty, pointless product now…. shame…
I’m sure she thinks she’s all standing up for artistic freedom and against the man and all but come on Madge. Show some respect.

The police in Scotland are out of line. How does Madonna’s show have any relation to what happened in Colorado? Why don’t the police stop ALL showings of the new Batman movie, which has lots of violence being shown and was a bizarre touchstone for the gunman?

miree, I agree that what is going on in Syria is truly horrific and deserves A LOT more attention (and action). I wish our leaders in the USA were supporting the Syrian MAJORITY who finally rose up last year and are fighting to remove the Assad regime that has ruled brutally for many years. We don’t need to send in troops or planes, but we should be outspoken that liberty and freedom are still our standards and that we will support other people who are fighting for those things.
Well the problem is if the US leaders step in then people also get mad at them for not minding their own business. so damned if you do damned if you don’t.

Yes, I still think this is somekind of censorship. It’s about having the CHOICE. It’s art, not real life. Cheap art in that case, but it’s still should be a choice.
They are other ways to show victims respect, without being force to do something we don’t want, like an hypocrite. Here she wants her show to stay the same, it’s her choice, her show as NOTHING TO DO with the shooting, in fact I didn’t know about her show at all and still don’t give a damn.
All this political correcteness around the shooting really start to piss me off. When we start to cancel/recut stuff when is gonna end and what is next thing to be point out in the name of sensitivity?
And now, after the trailer being pulling out, they will probably remove the cinema shooting scene in the Gangters Squad MOVIE. Remove the scene to not make people uncomfortable or come off as unintentionally insensitive, this is plain political correctness censorship to me. And same thing here for Madge. Cutting a movie! For me, there is no excuse. And what is it fault, bad timing? What if it would be Inglorious Basterds instead of Gangsters Squad, would Tarantino change the end of his movie too? Oh… I know when they cancelled the trailer that they WOULD NOT STOP THERE. I still hope this is rumour and that they are reshooting other scenes.

If she has to put away guns in her show then all movies featuring guns should be banned from theatres too! I think its ridiculous! People just look for any excuse to slag her off because they’re jealous that people still pay attention to her.

Bottom line, wanna show respect to the victims of crimes like this? Stop using toddler tactics to avoid and not have to deal with the issues that create these things – and START making REAL WORLD, sensible, honest and just changes to the laws, regulations, media response and collective responsibility as they pertain to the issue. Best way to solve any problem is to CONFRONT it honestly instead of trying to avoid it by making sure you don’t get reminded of it too often somehow.

I’ve always been a Madonna fan. But she hasn’t had a good album since Confessions on a Dance Floor and that was her last really great tour too.
She is not innovating. She is not maturing. She is de-evolving.
I’m always skeptical when people hate on Madonna because she is the sort of person who has always been hated for being a strong, outspoken woman.
But she is no longer a strong outspoken woman. She has become an insecure, sound-bite queen like her rival Elton John. Where once there was an artist, there is now someone who has become the victim of her own ambition. Nothing is good enough. She has to keep going, she keeps wanting more. And is never happy. She seems unhappy, unfulfilled and desperate for relevance.
