Oh God kill me now. From Entertainmentwise:

Ladbrokes have posted their odds on who will grab the titles character roles in the upcoming adaption of hit novel Fifty Shades of Grey with Ryan Gosling in the lead.

Bookies have jumped on the books [sic] current success and joined in the fascination with who might play the characters of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in the movie version.

Drive star Ryan Gosling is currently the favourite with odds at 2/1 followed by Vampire Diaries hunk Ian Somerhalder at 5/2.

With odds at 3/1 third place was given to hunky German actor Michael Fassbender who recently portrayed a sex addict in the raunchy film Shame. According the The Independent one convinced female punter placed a three figure sum on Fassbender landing the coveted role.

Heroine of the book, Anastasia Steele, is thought to be most likely given to Friends with Benefits actress Mila Kunis at odds of 3/1 with actress Scarlett Johansson closely behind with 4/2.

Other contenders for the female lead include Elizabeth Olsen (9/2) and Gilmore Girls Alexis Biedel [sic] (5/1).

The novel, which was branded ‘mummy porn’ has dominated literary conversation recently with masses of fans pondering who will play the much loved (or lusted after) Christian Grey.

“The nation has gone 50 shades of crazy for the book so it’s impossible to see how the film won’t be a success either,” Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said.

“The odds suggest 50 Shades will cane its competition in the box office.”

So, OK. It’s not *entirely* a thing yet, but I have no doubts that people would go absolutely batshit nuts over Ryan Gosling as Christian Grey. Now, I’m not going to pretend that I’ve read these books (I haven’t), and I’m not going to pretend that the popular opinion hasn’t colored my own (it has), but Ryan Gosling? In this joke of a film based on a joke of a book based on Twilight fan-fiction?

I don’t know, guys. How about we just have good old Ryan stick to movies that we can crucify him for because of Eva Mendes? Isn’t that so, so much more fun?

Last, on a semi-unrelated note, who the f-ck edited this shit from Entertainmentwise? Have they never heard of punctuation? Capitalization? SUBJECT-VERB AGREEMENT? What’s going on over there, guys? A little bit more drinky-drinky on the job than what’s necessary? Eh?

  • Wouldn’t Gosling have much higher standards? I heard they were really badly written, and I’ve seen people read them aloud on tv just to prove that and laugh.

      • HAHAHA

        No, this sucks.

“Does this mean you’re going to make love to me tonight, Christian?” Holy shit. Did I just say that? His mouth drops open slightly, but he recovers quickly. “No, Anastasia it doesn’t. Firstly, I don’t make love. I fuck… hard. Secondly, there’s a lot more paperwork to do, and thirdly, you don’t yet know what you’re in for. You could still run for the hills. Come, I want to show you my playroom.”

      • Oh, you stopped right at one of my favorite parts!

My mouth drops open. Fuck hard! Holy shit, that sounds so… hot. But why are we looking at a playroom? I am mystified.

“You want to play on your Xbox?” I ask.

      • Wait, CranAppleSnapple and Emily, are you joking? Are these actual quotes from the books?

      • YES! Completely real quotes. If you’re the kind of person who finds humor in really, really bad things, then this book will change your life.

        Here’s a bonus excerpt:

“How did you become this way?”

“Why is anyone the way they are? That’s kind of hard to answer. Why do some people like cheese and other people hate it? Do you like cheese? Mrs. Jones – my housekeeper – has left this for supper.” He takes some large, white plates from a cupboard and places one in front of me.

We’re talking about cheese… Holy crap.

  • “Now, I’m not going to pretend that I’ve read these books (I haven’t), and I’m not going to pretend that the popular opinion hasn’t colored my own (it has)”
    AGREED!

Also, I think Ryan and Fassy are too classy/good to even think about being a part of it… Considering Ryan dumped Rachel for being too mainstream, this seems like the last thing he’d ever want to be attached to!

  • The books are so bad, but so, so funny for it. I literally LOLed at least once every other page, and there were several times that I had to just stop and laugh for a few solid minutes. I can’t believe that so many people are taking this mess so seriously.

But I’d actually love to see Ryan as Christian Grey, only because I think he’d be in on the joke. I agree though that he and other actors like Michael Fassbender would be above this. I’d vote for Ian Somerhalder, since there’s been so much buzz about that, and also he’s a gorgeous guy from the Vampire Diaries, so this would probably be more his speed.

And Mila Kunis or Scarlett Johansson for Ana? Uuuugh. Ana’s supposed to be a 22-year-old girl who’s still in college and also an incredibly naive virgin who’s barely, if ever, kissed a dude, and I really don’t think that Mila or Scarlett could pull that off. In a serious world, I’d probably say that Lily Collins could be a good choice, but in my dream world, this role would go to Miley Cyrus or Lea Michele.

OH GOD. If Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart don’t do it, they should just give it to Miley and Liam Hemsworth. I would watch it over and over. Another possible couple would be Lea Michele and Ashton Kutcher. All for the LOLs.

Basically, I could talk about this mess all day. Funniest book ever.

*The Eye of Sauron swivels in Entertainmentwise’s direction*

Entertainmentwise likely isn’t employing much of an editor. A quick check of the company (and parent) makes it likely that she’s submitting articles as a freelance or intern.

*The Eye’s pupil narrows, peering off into the heart of London*

But, Caroline Fergusson, if my guess is correct (and I’m fairly sure it is), is a freelancer for them (based in London) and working as a Diary reporter at UK’s Mail on Sunday. Whatever that is. (Diary reporter. I read the Mail.)

The sad part is she has a MA (with honors) from Aberdeen in
    *drum roll*
    English Lit.

I’d guess her age is 25. Her family is upper-middle class.

She’s been writing since January of this year. I’d cut her some slack, as she appears to be fairly new to professional writing.

She’s dedicated to her career and would likely be someone that would benefit from a mentor; she isn’t going to have many friends outside of work and isn’t going to get much help from her co-workers. I’d say she isn’t aggressive (or passive-aggressive) and has middle to middle-low self-esteem. She does, however, have guts. Plucky, I believe, would be how to describe her.

*The Eye swivels back to evilbeetgossip*

I developed a fairly complete psychological/social profile while poking around, but I’ve said enough already.

  • horribly written! maybe whoever wrote the press release was taking cues from the author.. oh wait, she had more grammatical errors. Plus I’m sorry, the sex is not even all that. after the first time it’s the same s#!t over & over & it’s not creative/abnormal/interesting, etc.
I hope Ryan is above this movie. I can’t see him doing it. I also agree those actress would be horrible as the female lead. Miley Cyrus – now that would be funny. :)

  • Personally, I think Ashley Greene (Twilight) and Ryan Gosling would make a good pairing. For the female lead, Ana, you need someone with a combination of quiet strength, intelligence, but with an innocense and vulnerability that some more “mature” actress’ just wouldn’t portray very well. With the lead male actor I’d think you want someone that can show a cold, distant personna, but also someone with a troubled, vulnerable, almost adolescent aspect at times..someone who’s character evolves over time to reflect an always complex, multi layered dimension, but who can reflect the kind of simple joy of someone who unexpectedly finds the love of their life..and yes, “hot” too would be helpful…

  • I personally think that the book was great. I got annoyed during certain parts with the characters, but I ultimately loved it. Everyone is definitely entitled to their own opinions about the book, and based on what I see – there are many people who think of this book as a joke. I admit that after reading back some of the quotes, it was definitely something to laugh at. But in retrospect, there was so many good parts as well.

As far as the movie goes, I definitely think that Ryan Gosling would play Christian so well because he OOZES sex appeal and based on that movie Driver, he would nail the look of those weird facial expressions that Christian seems to give off almost always.
Finding someone to play Ana I think will be a tough task. It will have to be someone who has that young and innocent look about them but possess a very natural beauty. Also – and most importantly – you need to find an actress who will be willing to do all of those nude scenes! I think Lily Collins is gorgeous and would make a great Ana, but I think they will end up casting up and coming actors/actresses to play this role because of the constant sexually explicit scenes.

    Laters :)

  • I think ryan gosling would be perfect. Im not gonna lie when i started reading the book his image was in my mind the entire time. I think hes an awesome actor and would sell this movie like no other! As for ana i think kristen stewert. Shes got the natural beauty and could def pull off the whole converse style.
